Is there any dedicated software for Flt Ops?

I've only seen one software package, AirOps, but wondered what other Ops departments used.

I know there are some very expensive systems out there for airline type setups but wondered if there was anything around for smaller GA setups?

You could try some of the following, but they don't come cheap:-

AIS Scheduling XG, Aviation Information Services (AIS) - http://www.ais-software.com/

AviSource FS, CAMP Systems International - http://www.campsys.com/

BART-4-Windows, SeaGil Software Co. - http://www.seagil.com/

Flight Operations System NT (FOS/NT), CTA - http://www.cta-fos.com/

FlightPak, Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. - http://www.universalweather.com/flightpak/

FT Scheduler, Flight Trak, Inc. - http://www.flighttrak.com/

PFM Windows, Professional Flight Management - http://www.pfmsys.com/

What exactly do you mean by "Fight ops" software?
there is a software called "aviationoffice" which is build for smaller operators and provides a lot of possibilities. Worked with it for more than 2 years - it is a very good tool.
There is a schedule module, a pilots schedule module, a flight planning module, maintenance tasks module, you can do quotes, put your clients database in, do your accounting with it etc.etc.
The guy who programmed it is a A320 F/O and graduated computer freak, and he will
adapt it for you needs.

check www.aviationoffice.de (its in german...)

Seeing as this has turned into an advert, you could try www.airops.co.uk as first mentioned!

It's a good system, which gets better continually, if we ask for something it usually appears quite quickly.

I used AirOps many years ago and had a brief demo again last year. I found it very cumbersome...I didn't like the workflow when performing regular tasks, skipping around between menus...not particularly user friendly.

I'm looking for something that is simple to use, and speeds up day to day tasks. Not looking for flight-planning software but something that can produce handling requests, charter contracts, etc and can keep FDP records and perhaps help with rostering tasks.

Is there anything like that out there?

You should have another look at Airops, they changed it this year to work around a far more user friendly, and interactive, Ops Board - rather than the menus that they relied on previously.

If you want to know about a particular job (or route, flight etc) you just click on it and drill down through.

As for the rest of it, we use Airops for all the things you listed - seems to work very well for us at least. Handling requests, flight briefs, catering order, flight confirmations etc etc are all one button press - it does work well and has moved on hugely from the old DOS version!

Thanks for that I'll have to take a look again.

Does it calculate FDPs? I've got a spreadsheet that keeps track of the 7 and 28 day total but it doesn't cover everything required by CAP371,eg next availables, actual daily FDP according to sign on time, that sort of thing...

Yep, does all that stuff - in pretty colours too! Monitors 1in8's, 2in14's, monthly, yearly plus tells you when you can sign on next etc. It's set up for CAP371 but can be tailored if you've got a specific company scheme. Also copes with Multi and Single Crew FDPs concurrently.

It also flags up warnings if we try to allocate pilots to jobs which would break the rules (not that we EVER do anything like that! Ahem...)

Our CAA FOI is impressed in that it can run pretty much any report he wants to see.

I like it. As you can probably guess!
