Saw an pic in People Magazine showing John Travolta sitting in the cockpit of the A380 in Melbourne!

Now, what in the world is he doing getting rides in the A380 when much more suitable individuals/press have not been allowed?

I have always wondered how the Qantas pilots feel about him parading around in a Qantas uniform! For me, it would be a slap in the face!

What a tool!

Do I detect a little envy?

He is a Qantas Ambassador and was in Australia for the 85th Birthday of the airline along with the A380.

Like it or not he promotes Qantas throughout the world therefore the Qantas board may feel he is entitled to be snapped sitting in the cockpit of the A380.

I believe he is a Qantas appointed ambassador ,it's official! He's not just a wannabe,he is!

I read elsewhere that he will be training on the aircraft to achieve a type rating.

when much more suitable individuals/press
he seems to be the most suitable individual QF could have chosen (apart from the L Ron Hubbard thing)... and I bet Airbus just loooooove it.....

Not envious at all! I could care less about the A380 and who gets a ride in it etc., but I find it somewhat odd that an American is running around the world promoting an Australian airline and wearing the Captain's uniform when he is not even on the seniority list!

If you're not on the seniority list, then you shouldnt be wearing a uniform in my opinion!

There was an feature in Professional Pilot Magazine a few years back that featured his flight department. They crew all had on airline uniforms and hats that were "modified" from Armani suit jackets!

Again, what a tool! Almost as bad as Donald Trump!

The poor captain must look a bit silly, standing there in his jocks, socks & singlet! :p

come on guys, a little perspective!
As someone who has met him I can confirm that he is one of the nicest, level headed people you could meet.
His work worldwide for aviation, esp since 911, was brilliant. Don't fall for the PR side and the glitzy image, here is a guy who is in love with aviation as much as any of us.

If your status allowed you to get on the 380 wouldn't you use it too? I know I would!

Haven't you heard of PR? JT does that for Qantas and they in turn help JT. It is not by chance that he happened to be there!

Have to agree with BusBoy here.
JT brought his 707 into Edinburgh a couple of years ago as part of the world tour. He spent ages talking to the assembled airport gawkers ( of which I was one), with no press in attendance. Took loads of us on board to show us the modifications that had been made and talked with us all knowlegably and passionately about aviation.
In the end he apologised for having to leave in order to attend a pr event (for which he was now late) but told us to spend as long as we liked looking over the aircraft, with no "minders" in attendance.
The guy was natural, genuine and extremly interesting. When he flies, he is an aviator, not an actor.
He certainly had no hang ups about his "star" status. Seems some on here do though.

Surely far worse was that BA in-flight trailer with Roger Moore as a four ring BA Captain (sitting in the RH seat, must be his good side) -- but that was all in a good cause (Change for Good). He did look a bit past 55 at the time as well . . . :O

Travolta hosted and did the commentary of a show on the development of the A380 which was shown on the Discovery Channel a while back. I assume the current activities will be shown as a follow up.

Hang on, isnt JT trained and rated on the B744? I'm sure I read about that somewhere.. Didnt QF pay for him to achieve this?

Wasn´t there a story that Travolta is looking for a second-hans affordable 747, to add to his personal 707? So as to have more space for toilets, double beds et cetera?

Also, is Travolta also getting a type rating for 380? Presumably he would have to wait some time before 380-s come dirt cheap on second-hand market...

Liz Hurley isn't on the "seniority list" of Estee Lauder. How dare she promote their products?
