When an aircraft pitches up, the angle of attack of the tailplane will:

increase


Is this correct?

Not so sure about that. Think about a PA28 (all-flying 'stabilator') to get a clearer picture - to get the aircraft to pitch up you must use back pressure on the control column which decreases the tailplane AoA, pulling the tail down and pitching the nose up.

But isn't the tailplane just and upside down wing,(CofG ahead of the centre of lift), and therefore, when applying back pressure on the controls, you are increasing the AoA, and thereby creating a downforce.

Question needs to be more specific, as both answers are correct depending on the cirumstances in which the aicraft pitches up.

As 1pudding says, remembering that the AoA is most commonly negative on a horizontal stabilizer.
