View Full Version : External drive connection
Is there a CHEAP way to plug an IDE hard into a USB port to enable transfer of data? I don't particularly want to buy the whole drive caddy and wonder if someone markets the connection kit for a one-off go? WinXP/USB 1 or 2.
USB-ATAPI adaptor (http://www.girotech.co.uk/info.asp?Referer=FR&StockCode=CBL/GEN/USB2-503). If you want one with an external power supply, the price goes up to about 20 quid.
'Direct hit' (as usual!). Thanks ORAC.

Yes, got one of those and use it regularly for an 'internal' DVD writer and a int hard disk. Did have a problem with an older DVD/CD drive but no snags with relatively new ones. This plus an int DVD is way cheaper than an ext drive. Recommended.
Hey ho! Always up for a laugh! Found one on ebay and have 'bought' it. Will let you know what happens..................
What happens is....I now have a neat external IDE-USB setup for the princely sum of £10.90 delivered in 3 days. When ebay works well, it is great!
