With American Airlines and United Airlines each cutting 20'000 jobs, Continental reducing by 12'000 and US Airways by 11'000, Boeing laying of 30'000 jobs, smaller regional carriers like Midway folding all together, over 100'000 jobs in our industry have been FedExd to hell within one week in the united states alone. Airbus is announcing reductions and cancellations of orders and expects to cut its workforce as well although the impact here is not as tragic. European carrier such as Lufthansa and British Airways also announced five digit reductions will be taking place.

Ladies and Gentleman, the events of 11. September 01 in New York and Washington DC have been beyond all of our imagination, sad and horrifying. Many people are reluctant to fly now for many reasons. Fear of further attacks, may be one of the most profound at the moment, and yet there are several other reason such as not travelling at all to be with loved ones in this time of need or reduced business travel as companies are re-establishing themselves.

Rather sooner than later, with aid packages from the US Government and financial support around the world, the need for air travel will be as high if not higher then to compensate, for business and leisure in the recovery phase of the cowardly terrorist attack.

As a war is around the corner, and the allied forces are reading themselves for the first retaliatory strike, those who are responsible, in person and nation, see what they have brought on to them. With all certainty, they will attempt to further conduct terroristic actions - they will all be futile. We now know what to look for and we will hunt them around the world. And our flights will be safe!

So lets not run down our industry, let's not panic! I urge all to press on, let your colleagues know that we won't take this; we will not be victims of a handful of loonies.
