Hadn't they just spent a lot of money designing a new livery on their emergence from bankruptcy?

With a fleet of 312 aircraft and their projected saving of $20,000 U.S. per aircraft per year makes an impressive figure of $6.24M.That's got to be good news to any accountant.:ok:

The fact that they will then have to pay for or hire new staff to keep the jets shiny I presume would be factored in......

Well, it's certainly paid off for American all these years.......

they're looking to pay shareholders (the new ones, not the old ones who got hosed in C11) $300m so every penny is precious. Not to mention the deposits for the shiny new Boeings!

I imagine when the nude 76s go back to the desert from whence some had returned recently, it will be hotter than the white liveried days?

If I may ahem.. expand on the report, the paint is being removed from one 767 (#613 for the spotters) as a trial. If all goes well, other 767s will be similarly treated as and when they become due for repaint.

You can't strip an Airbus down to metal/carbon/plastic/whatever.

RE: You can't strip an Airbus down to metal/carbon/plastic/whatever

I thought about this and a previous comment about American - and I wondered what American will do when they take possession of 787’s - will they paint those aircraft shiny silver?

On a more slightly more serious note though - are there any ramifications for long term structural integrity if you do not paint metal/carbon/plastic/whatever - does UV affect carbon fibre etc?

AA (and AC from 2010) will probably do with their 787s what they do with their rather less plastic A300s -

What goes around ............

Back in the '70s or so, Air Canada was widely touted for having developed (or commisssioned) a special paint to protect the belly from agents used on runways during the winter. Prior to that the belly had been bare aluminum, subsequently was painted grey.
