Out of interest are there any approaches into rwy 23 at Florence (LIRQ). There looks to be very high ground close to the threshold so are approaches only permitted to 05?

Thanks.

There's no instrument approach. What is possible is to break off the 05 ILS to the right - head towards the city then hang a left staying outside the large antenna that the Italians have helpfully placed in a left base position.Once you're past it head downhill towards the (very) displaced threshold for 23. It's a special qualification for Captains and not used much.It slows down their already pedestrian landing rate even more and they'll only use 23 for landing if there is a fair old wind blowing. In which case the windshear around the antenna ( it's near Fiesole) offers fun for everyone.

Great Visual Approach!!!!!
Only managed it 3 times in 3 years of flying into Florence.

Break right and aim for the duomo, override the gpws and round the mast 600fpm ROD

Great view of the Italien Girlys round the pools on the hillside!!!!!
