View Full Version : CENSORSHIP

To All:

I've thought long and hard about how to reply to the the removal of a good topic that was allowed to spiral into a personal mud slinging match. I believe that there were some very good points made with the exception of one individual intruding and casing it's collapse.

I can understand the neccessity for Helidrvr to intervene, but I feel the topics removal and banishment was uncalled for especially since the cause of the problem is still around.

I will have to think long and hard about any future posts and whether I will continue to contribute to a topic that may uncerimoniously be removed to protect one individual.

I have enjoyed taking part in these discussions but I think I'll just sit back for a while to ponder this form of censorship.

Offshore,

If a thread's "owner" (the person who started it) requests its removal or closure, that is not censorship in my book. Nothing has been deleted, one thread is archived, a couple of others have been closed. Only one of these was closed by me on my own initiative since it did not deal with any operational subject and would only have served to continue the mudslinging. I have written to the main protagonists and requested their cooperation.

Please read also my closing comment in the "Military Training" thread. Hopefully peace will return.

Shame it's got to this sorry state on Rotorheads. Things were very civilised not so long ago. We didn't need a moderator for the first few years but we certainly do now.

Although I don't much care for his attitude, Lu is not the only one to blame. Almost every thread seems to go rapidly downhill these days. I am sure I'm not the only one who doesn't find any fun in contributing to or following these mud-slinging matches. It is now becoming difficult to find a subject that hasn't gone well off topic to a personal level.

I'll be staying away. Perhaps East Enders is less depressing.

Skycop,

Don't leave just yet! I think we may have turned the corner if the main protagonists accept my private communications to them.

Now we need to show ourselves that we can bring this forum back to the high ground. For this we especially need the help of those who have remained out of the gutter.

Helidrvr:

I can sympathise with you're situation and I know it is a thankless job. The point I was trying to make, very briefly this morning prior to going to work, yes I work on weekends as does anyone working offshore, was that I didn't want to get involved any further with these downward spirals if we were not going to be able to at least attempt to get the thread back on track.

The trouble was, that one individual tended to fill up the thread very rapidly with his responses and before you knew it we were up to 5 or 6 pages of it! One only has to look at the 'registered since' date and the number of posts to conclude that someone has far too much time on their hands.

I didn't mean to dump on you, but it was 04:30 in the morning and I was in a hurry.

If you feel the e-mails you have sent out to these individuals will help, I guess I'll just have to wait and see. That sounds fair enough to me.

Skycop - don't go anywhere ..... I have enjoyed reading your input to topics and would like to continue to do so.

I share your concerns ....although until fairly recently I have been an observer of Rotorheads rather than a contributor.
So - I am probably a little misplaced in preaching.

It would be tragic if the good sense of useful participants were lost due to personal differences between others.

Let's all argue the toss about matters Rotary, but stop scratching peoples eyes out!

Last thing I have to say on it, I'm not leaving, and from nearly all of the responses I know where I stand here.

My thoughts to action on locking out the antagonist's curent ID is this:
(and the admins can lock out an ID. It is done all the time on other boards, and sends a clear message to the offender. )

It now humbles that person to go back to a "1" for posts and drops that person back to a training status in the posting window, because they will have to make a new profile. I believe it to be appropriate action, and if eh wants to make a new name for himself afterwards, then so be it.

Iggy, stay, in fact I have a letter from a pilot and want your contribution, will be posting it next as soon as I have permission from the author.

I hope none of you leave. I enjoy reading your informative discussions. For the casual onlookers your occasional punch-ups can be quite amusing, although I appreciate that those directly involved will not see the funny side. Please don't quit. If Danny and the staff at Prune see that certain people are persistently p*ssing others off the culprit(s) will be banned from the Forums PERMANENTLY. It's happened on Jet Blast. It may happen here.

Thanks for the kind words, I will stick around a while and hope for the best.

Let's get it back on track (and balance)?

RW-1,

By private email, I asked you BOTH to stop goading each other! I also asked that you not force me to go public with this request. Will you please chill out and resume posting your excellent operational/technical comments?

GRRRR!

To: All

Call it an Epiphany or the result of many posts critical of how I handled myself on the various threads on the Rotorheads forum but it finally sunk in. I want to apologize for my conduct and ask for your forgiveness. I want to participate in and to contribute to the Rotorheads forum and other forums on PPRuNe. I will participate and not try to “highjack” threads and in my responses I will try to restrain myself and not resort to sarcasm.

I will on occasion like to create a thread that allows me to put forth my theories on how and, in some cases why things work. I will enjoin in discussions with the understanding that in some cases, we may be talking about the same thing, but we may be using different words to explain our views.

If this is the case I will ask that all technical differences be brought down to the lowest level through explanation of what it is that I / we want to say.

Hopefully you will accept my apology and I can then participate without fear of comments.

Lu:

Well put. I can see no reason how anyone could argue with that logic. I have read many of you're past posts and found them informative. I for one will look forward to you're eager participation in any and all future discussions.

As they used to say in the Navy, "New Ship, New Cap Tally" Welcome aboard Lu.

Helidrvr:

I think enough has been said on this topic and I look forward to a more on stream forum now. I think many have seen the light and I am happy at this time to close this thread.
