Hi you guys - wonder if you help me get my head around this....

Does anyone out there have days that are rostered as available days? What is the difference between these and standby days?

Ta :)

An 'available day' would be a day where you are available to fly...ie not a rostered Day Off.

A Standby would be a set time period, upto 12hrs long, rostered in advance, making crew available to fly, possibly at short notice, should they be needed.

Standby duty periods count towards cumulative duty times, 7 day, 28 day totals, whereas available days are a more flexible way of having crew available without affecting cumulative duty periods and not restricting crew to set standby periods of availability.

Clear as mud?

with my outfit an available day you have to be contactable for a short period in the morning 08:00-09:30 and also 17:00-18:00. If contacted you have to be given 10 hours notice of a duty. An available day after a trip normally means a dayy off!

Standby they only have to give you 1:30 notice before report, so you are hanging onto the phone.

Is that tongue in cheek?

I am with BMED and I have to say there are much worse outfits to work for!
