Hi all,

I would like to know what circumstances result in an aircraft having the callsign 'South African 2'. Is it the deputy president or something like that?

Thanks.

I saw LMG 9 in Germany the other day. Called himself "South African 9" It was Thabo's B737 doing a test flight while he was having tea in Berlin.
Why the "9" you ask? Don't know either. Maybe they had 9 techs on board.....

If they're using the American system of identification in relation to the status of the individual on board, wouldn't "9" be quite far down the list?

Minister of Thuggery, Museum Raids and Half Informed Decisions, perhaps? :(

South African 2 would be the deputy and SA 1 the president as I understand. Such an awkward sounding callsign me thinks.

Just curious, thanks. SA 2 and a Nationwide (not sure of number) flight seemed to have been (almost) sharing the same piece of sky yesterday. RA's all round apparently.

The call sign should be "tax payers cash out on a jolly" the number at the end has no real significance at the end of the day.

Lets see what else can i impress Mugabe with??.....

South African is the callsign the SAAF uses for some of their flights, probably when they have important peeps on board. Designator is LMG.

Maybe the callsign should be SA monkeys 1 , SA monkeys 2 and so on.;)
