Hi people,

I'm just running a project here. Suppose you have an aircraft in Male, or Colombo heading towards Singapore.

This aircraft is non HF.

Are there any routings available for a jet to cross the Bay of Bengal?

Thanks in advance

Miles

Well, if your airplane has CPDLC Datalink you might be able to route direct on the airways of Chennai or Calcutta. But these datalink services only operate until 2200 Local time Chennai / Calcutta.

Routing to stay within VHF range will double your flight times since you have to go via Myanmar up north and then skirt the coastline.

Cheaper and less worrisome to just retrofit the HF radios in the airplanes.

Cheers

Serangga,

Thanks a lot. Not my airplane, so can't retrofit. Will investigate the north routing. It's just an exercise at the moment, so heres hoping it doesn't become live!

Miles.

I don't know what kind of airplane you are flying, but several companies rent HF units for ferrying...

Do a Google search if your interested...
