What a sad name for a promotions / musicians company in any case ... :p:p:p

The elephant has finally crushed the ant.

World-famous entrepreneur Richard Branson's company, Virgin UK, has succeeded in de-registering a small Limpopo company for using the word "virgin" in its name.

Virgin Child Productions (Pty) Ltd no longer exists.

Virgin Child Productions co-owner Richard Hlungwani said: "We got a letter...last month informing us that we've been de-registered.

"Obviously, this affects our business, but we're seeking legal opinion and weighing the pros and cons of taking the matter to court."

Hlungwani's company is based in Polokwane and specialises in producing and promoting musicians, marketing and events management.

Virgin UK is a multinational company that owns a number of entertainment, music and travel companies around the world.

Virgin UK's Pretoria-based lawyer Rory Richardson of DMR Attorneys applied to the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office (CIPRO) early this year to de-register Virgin Child.

Virgin UK argued that the Limpopo company had been dormant for five years and was infringing Virgin UK's trademark.

Richardson said he had written letters and called Hlungwani's company with no success.

Richardson said: "We've gone out of our way to accommodate them. They had time to go to the media but had none to go to CIPRO."

Hlungwani insists that his company never went dormant and says that he spoke to both Richardson and CIPRO.

CIPRO has confirmed that Virgin Child Productions (Pty) Ltd was de-registered.

Probably not really an issue, unless you are in roughly the same business as Virgin UK.

Theres an old thread here on this situation. The Original Virgin was in fact now called Air St Thomas in the Virgin Islands.. Big Lawsuit and Branson had to buy the name.. So it works both ways. He has the coins to fight and if it says Virgin, he probably will..
