Just working on a report for a prospective owner and wondered whether anyone knows if a jet has ever been operated in/out of Fairoaks.

Operated many times BUT empty, in order to position into Farnborough.

Don't consider it as a base, unless of course you fancy putting extra cycles and empty legs into your equation! :ugh:

I have been in and out with citation 1's and CJ's in the past, with and without power brakes and reversers if I recall. However, I wouldnt recommend it unless you are very familiar with the aircraft and in current practice. If you like living on the edge then do it, if you like a margin of safety dont.

If the runway is dry and the aircraft is light its not a problem but its one of those places you cant promise to be able to get in due to weather and conditions. Parking is a problem there too.

I seem to remember flying a 500 that was based there

There was the well known 'fairoaks express' incident some years ago where an Ultra went off the end. Bad weather heavy aircraft etc. Wrote it off.

Here is the AAIB "Fairoaks Express" report.

'Tis worth a read, and a few moments quiet contemplation.

The commander was also an examiner. And still is.

A C525 was in & out of Fairoaks yesterday, not sure if it was empty or not.
