My Dad recalled a Heinkel or Dornier that crashed just outside the grounds of Culford School one night during WWll. A boy was alledgedly expelled for taking parts - maybe radio parts, from it. Legend has it that the wreckage was closely guarded for a day or two as "secret" bits were removed, and then it was bulldozed into the lake. In my time (70s) there was certainly something old and corroded that looked like an aircraft drop tank (hardly typical of a Heinkel I know) protruding from the lake that was attached to something pretty immovable.

Was it ever salvaged/investigated? Anyone know more? Sadly I believe the lake has been dredged since then which will have removed any remaining evidence.
