Two people have been killed after a helicopter crash in Yorkshire.
The incident happened on Saturday at Biggin Crossroads, between Cawood and Sherburn, North Yorkshire.

The civilian aircraft, believed to be a Robinson R22, came down in fields south of Church Fenton airfield at dusk.

A West Yorkshire ambulance spokeswoman said: "We dispatched an air ambulance to the scene but we couldn't do anything for the two people inside.

"We believe they were the only ones on board."

Local owners

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said no further details would be released about the victims until next of kin had been informed.

The helicopter was registered to Hields Aviation, based at Sherburn Airfield.

A spokesman for the company, which gives lessons and hires out helicopters, said he could not give any details about the accident or those involved.

The helicopter crashed into fields owned by farmer Ian Gilbertson, who heard the impact and rang the emergency services.

He said: "I didn't see anything. I just heard the helicopter and then heard a bang and I knew there was something wrong.

"By the time I got round the corner it had come down."

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch of the Civil Aviation Authority will investigate the crash.

My condolences to the families and people involved.
