I work in SAR/EMS and as such find I'm often planning "on the run" and out in the field. Does anyone have info on a good Palm Pilot computer that would suit this application. Somthing that will run basic flight planning / spreadsheet software?

Have a look at AircalcPro (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=40030520001127114955&prodID=4017)

Works on all types of Palm, graphical W/B, all sorts of other goodies. It's shareware, albeit $100 of shareware !!

You're obviously a Palm wizz. Would you recommend buying one of the Palm 3 models or Palm V?
Thanks.

Hoverman :

Horses for courses. I have a Palm Vx - small ( fits in a shirt pocket ), 8Mb RAM ( holds all my work contacts, etc. ) and synchronises with MS Outlook as well, but it's not got replaceable batteries, only an internal rechargeable Lithium-Ion one.

Palm 3 run all the same software, use standard AA batteries so you can replace them in the field, are a bit bigger but have a flip case ( so are a bit more robust ).

The only drawback is where you're going to keep the thing while flying - either velcro'ed to a kneepad or in an out-of-the-way pocket in a flying suit.

If you want more info, drop me a line.

I got bored with "WhoNeedsRunways"

P.S. I wouldn't class myself as a Palm "wizz", just a humble user.

I wouldn't discount a Pocket PC. They cost a little more but so much more powerful - it can be an MP3 player, a library and a spreadsheet- and totally compatible with Office. I use one and I have a handy little program on it called CE6b from NAVTECH. www.palmplan.flyer.co.uk (http://www.palmplan.flyer.co.uk) www.pocketpc.com (http://www.pocketpc.com)

Has any one here used one of the moving map displays on a PDA? I've seen them advertised but heard nothing good or bad.

Have a look at skywritersoft.com It's the best I have seen for the Palm, and it works.
