Just out of interest I would like to invite nominations for the best and worst ground handling units in Europe. To start the ball rolling I would like to nominate Servisair in Murcia as the worst and NEA at Manch as the best.

After my little incident in Milan Linate last week. (Badly cut forehead) I thought our handling agents "Aloa" did a pretty good job. :)

Erica Righini was outstanding. Thanks.

You actually got handling in Port-au-Prince? Every time I’ve been there it was more like ‘self-serve’.

In the US the worse is usually any ‘Signature’ FBO when they are the sole operator on the airport. The only other thing that you can count on at Signature along with bad service is really high prices.

Since Signature bought out all the FBOs in UK the prices seem to have shot up and the service has gone down. Not sure I agree about Harrods at Luton. The smoking in the lounge is pretty nightmarish.

yep, that would be my only complaint. The smoking in the waiting/crew room is punishing.

No complaints at all about the service and facilities. :)

Battersea for the worst. Many years ago, the marshaller seemed to combine the signals for up, down, back and forward, and included a few twiddly bits of his own invention. Logic decreed he wanted us either to move forward or back, but with the best will in the world we could not decide on which one. We had to ask the tower eventually, and he sorted us out.

When I had a chat with the marshaller, he seemed surprised at our stupidity.

And the best? Battersea, a couple of years later. Different marshaller - superb.

And the oddest? On a small North Sea platform, the only place the marshaller could find where I could see him from the hover was hanging on to a crane. This left him one arm with which to do the marshalling.

Which reminds me - we all know the system when stores are indented for: the man who pays the money out of his own pocket scans the list and promptly cuts every demand in half.

We needed a pair of illuminated marshalling wands...

Just cross your fingers if they are "tugging" your aircraft. They have a had a few prangs recently and one operator moved from them as a result.

Harrods at Luton?!

flchange: you must have been there on a good day! By far the worst we've seen of late were Harrods.

The ops girl 'helping' us couldn't even figure out how to get us the met and Notams, and found it most strange that pilots might find that information useful!

Everything about them was re-active, not pro-active.

What about Harrods Stn?? they always look busy with the big biz jets

What about the babes at TAG, Farnborough. They are always immaculately turned out no matter how long they've 'been on' and can never do enough for you.

My limited experience of Italian handling agents (ATA, Linate, the lot at Genoa) has so far been uninspiring.

Further to my post above, why is it that Universal at STN don't employ female handlers  No doubt do a better job in the passenger handling side. Lets face it, a pretty face at silly O'clock in the morning will always go down well :O

As a visiting Engineer I was way down the list when it came to assistance from the HA girls at Luton. Okay THE customer (pax) should be the most pampered but aren't all visitors customers?

Jet centre london city, just as good as it gets!

NEA; I havent been for ages but Jerry gets my vote if hes still there, things just happen and nothing is a big deal, his mate Chris on the IOM is a great chap too. As long as you dont mind the odd expletive ;)

"you want a f@**!ng hire car? Dont be F@***!g stupid its the TT!" what a star, there should be more like Jerry and CHris the world would be a much better place :)

Gerry and Chris two legends of general aviation!! I did hear through the grapevine though there is a young relative of Gerry's in the industry!! Wonder if he will grow up to be like his Uncle Gerry.

What about the babes at TAG, Farnborough.

Not been for ages but appart from bieng politicaly incorrect ;) I wouldnt have classed the women there as babes, maybe I'm just too young to understand or to class these very capable ladies as Babes LOL

Are you over 50? If so i guess they could be termed as babes, very nice people there in the old days anyhow efficient too.
:ooh:

If its babes you're after, perhaps you had better stand outside the school gate at home time.

TAG at Farnborough are giving great service as are Harrods and LEA. Is it true that NEA at Manchester have aspirations to serve fish and chips in their reception area? or is it faggots and chips in the north? ..........maybe someones idea of a joke???? well i guess its regional.
