It must be good as my office firewall has blocked access and said that it is:

"Tasteless & Offensive"

Do computers have taste ?

If that was a genuine video clip then I fail to see how anyone could find it funny. It certainly wasn't for the guy who lost his hands or his wife and child who witnessed it.

I really do hope that it was a set up, but have a nasty feeling that it wasn't.

How anyone, particularly helicopter pilots, can think that video is funny is beyond my comprehension.

They'd probably have found a video of the father who lifted his small child up to ensure she didn't run towards the tail-rotor, and lifted her straight into the rotating main rotor with immediately fatal conseqences, absolutely hilarious. No doubt if that had been videoed, it would have found its way onto the net somewhere for its amusement value to some.

Lighten up guys! :hmm:

It is clearly a set up, clearly a "joke", however much poor taste it might exhibit. If it was a guy being run over by a tank or falling in a giant liquidizer (ok, my imagination is running away now...) then you'd all see it for the joke it is - it's nothing you can't see late night on Channel 4 (UK) or on cable / satellite. It's an advert aimed at t'internet because they wouldn't get away with it on the telly, same as those sex olympics ones (great, aren't they?).

I'll take your advice on matters relating to flying helicopters, as I'm a newbie, and I don't think much of the ad either, but for Christ's sake don't tell us what we can or can't find funny!

Nobody's telling you or anyone else what you can and can't find funny, simply expressing opinions - just like you - which people are free to accept or reject as they wish.

Check out this thread, and read it to the end. Some people might find it funny. Link (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=192686)

Oh come on , its an advert , read the bit at the end.

Maybe it is a little tasteless but it has an ammount of humor to it.

Take a deep breath and .........

Heliport: wow , that's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the little girl in the helicopter thanks god it wasn't that video...

Anyway I'd show the video to the people working near helicopters, even real videos if I find one.
There are some  guys out there and they are thinking they know everything about be around helicopters...

Well don't worry, I wont chastise anyone who did not find the strange ADVERT funny, each to their own!
Some people don't find Monty Python funny, and rebuke anyone who does.. Oh well!

Extremely unfunny, intended as a "joke" or not.

What next? A parody of the true tragedy of the lady on her first parachute jump who landed on a rotating helicopter at Thruxton?

The RAF Chinook crewman decapitated in the Falkland Islands?

The US Navy Seahawk that decapitated a sailor on board ship?

I think not. Some of us have seen the aftermath, it's not funny at all.

Pure bad taste. :*

Some of you lot are sick puppies indeed. I'm glad the thread pointed out how distasteful the video is - I didn't want to open it at work and was going to view it at home. Now I know that I don't want to bother so thanks to those with some taste.

Cheers

Had I known it was an advert before I watched it and that something horrible was about to happen I think I would have been less bothered but frankly I found it nasty! I'm not too bothered about such stuff usually and enjoy a laugh, and looking back the hand looks very fake (maybe the home video style and closeness to home made it worse).

Perhaps it is a good reminder though. Just a shame it's actually designed (can't see it working myself) to sell trousers or whatever... I think whoever made it should put their energies into something less grim. The accuracy compared to genuine videos of similar events (Robinson safety Course) is worrying...

I didn't like it!

PS thinking about it further is it a genuine advert or just a bogus one for the sake of the skit?

I think i must be getting old.

I like the satirical humour type things usually, however I found this thing quite disturbing.

I also thought of the young girl incident, and the parachute incident (but at Headcorn) whilst watching this.

I wonder if the guy flying it knows that the footage was used to make this !

Joe public will probably find it funny, but as a professional pilot this made me feel quite ill.

Soapbox mode off now, each to their own I suppose.

Check out this thread, and read it to the end. Some people might find it funny. Link

Heliport, you are pathetic. I would be appalled if any PPRuNer had posted that comment, but from a Moderator I find it even less acceptable.

For those who haven't checked, the link refers to a discussion about the recent accident to Australian helicopter pilot Lester Chambers who received serious head injuries from the blade of a '300. When the last post was made, on 21st October, he remained in a serious condition.

You will note, Heliport, my post on that thread:

Best wishes, Lester and family, for a speedy recovery.

To suggest, to even hint , that I find the accident or his resulting predicament remotely amusing revolts me. If you did not mean to suggest this then I suggest you re-read your post, which follows mine and makes specific references to my comments. The fact that I have suggested we do not need our senses of humour to be "policed", as I feel the tone of your post - given your position as a moderator - infers, does not in any way point to me finding a tragic and genuine accident funny.

I have worked in the emergency services for the last nineteen years, and in common with many on this forum have seen sights that have sickened me to my stomach, and at which I am professionally unable to react at the time. A broad-mindedness develops in such circumstances, and emergency and hospital staff do develop a sick sense of humour in order to deal with such stress. It is something we tend to keep amongst ourselves, and helps in some circumstances, but doesn't mean we just stand and laugh at others' misfortunes. Only three days ago a PA38 crashed in a residential street only half a mile from my house - both men on board were killed. You will be glad to know I don't find that funny, either.

The point of my post was to apply a sense of perspective, as regards to what is very, very clearly a set up, a scam, an advert! As i said before, I don't particularly like it, but I'm not going to suggest that other mustn't either.

You did, as far as I'm concerned:

How anyone, particularly helicopter pilots, can think that video is funny is beyond my comprehension.

Your comment about Lester Chambers' accident is the sickest and most offensive I have ever read on PPRuNe. To include the link is the piece de resistance. I sincerely hope his family and friends, some of whom posted on the original thread, do not see your comment, in whatever context you meant it.

I notice you describe yourself as Super Moderator. I don't think so. Do you?

DB,

I think you've missed the irony in Heliports post.

DB,

Please, maybe consider that your 19 years in the emergency services have somehow de-sensitised you and things that you would have found revolting and horrific 20 years ago, no longer affect you in the same way.

However, as I still haven't (and won't now out of principle) watch the video - what do I know!

Cheers

There was no video of the Thruxton tragedy, but I do have a clear memory of reading the accounts of people who watched in horror as she floated towards the hovering helicopter but could do nothing to prevent the accident, of reading (with accompanying photographs) how what remained of the poor girl's body was scattered in small pieces over the airfield, of reading the pathologist's report of her horrific injuries and, most vividly of all, of advising her distraught parents as gently as possible against devoting their lives and modest savings to bringing a legal action when, even if negligence was proved, the damages recoverable for the loss of a non-dependent relative are fixed by Parliament at a very small sum - which was already being offered (without formal admission of liability) by the parachuting school's insurance company.
I didn't find any of it even remotely funny, but maybe that's just me.

I also remember being involved in the the legal aftermath of the Headcorn accident mentioned, a mid-air collision between a freefall skydiver and the jump aircraft returning to the airfield. That case had an additional dimension for me - the young woman who was killed was a barrister who represented young barristers' interests when I served as a member of the Bar Council and I knew her, although not well. I didn't find anything amusing about that accident either but, again, we're all different.

Identifying irony clearly isn't your strong point.

To be honest I have not seen or would want to see anything where a person gets hit by a spinning blade funny or not.

At EGKK I witnessed a person hit by a feathering prop blade and just with it rotating in the breeze the injury was substantial. He was an old hand who should have known better. I have been told of other stories where people have walked through a/c props and the outcome is grim and even stopped a celebs son walking through one.

Nothing like this should be taken lightly especially accidents where the outcome is pure tragedy

Working in a dangerous environment I am constantly aware of how easy it is for these accidents to happen

Whether or not you think I'm pathetic, and whether or not you find my comments acceptable, are matters of complete indifference to me - although reading your post (and your 'Report this Post' message in similar terms) gave me some amusement at the end of a long day.

I'm not sure if you've genuinely misunderstood my post or chosen to pretend you have in order to try to make a point. Whichever, I have neither the time nor inclination either to try to explain irony to you in simple enough terms for you to understand, or to argue with you.
If you wish to pursue the matter further, feel free to write to Danny.

BTW, "Super Moderator" is the PPRuNe designation for a few of us who, in addition to moderating a particular forum, deal with any urgent problems concerning PPRuNe which arise while Danny and the other two Administrators are down route. (They are long haul pilots.)
If you can persuade Danny to change our title, I'd be very grateful to you - I've always found it rather embarrassing.

Come on guys, lighten up! It was a spoof video! Unless the guy stood over 8' tall! The blades on an R44 are 10' above the ground. I didn't see him jump up! Maybe I missed him jumping up.

There are hundreds of videos like that on the internet. How many people laughed at Monty Pythons Knight being reduced to a mere torso in one sketch?
How many people laughed at the video of the guy in the H269 trying to fly it with no experience? It was kinda funny but showed what may happen when trying things without incorrect training?
I can't remember laughing at any of the videos on the Robinson training tape. They sickened me to my stomach and stopped me flying for a week!
Too much PC bull**** these days.
Some things are not funny. Real accidents involving helicopters are not laughing matters under any circumstances but when shown like the now deleted link, they hammer home a message. Some of us obviously have differing senses of humour but hey, that's just one of the things that makes us all unique!

For info -

I deleted the link at the request of some Oz members who considered not only that the video was in bad taste generally but thought it was in particularly inappropriate to have the link in this forum at a time when one of their colleagues is in a critical condition, fighting for his life, after a rotorblade injury.
I agreed and removed it.
