BA MAN to JFK questions

My name is Luke and I am flying from Manchester to New York JFK on Tuesday with BA and since I have never flown transatlantic before I have a few questions firstly what will be the route taken after take of will we overfly Liverpool/Wirral and pass over Dublin and the centre of Ireland-then over Newfoundland as most transatlantics ex MAN do or will we take some different route? Also I know that a 767 is used on this route what sort of facilities does it have on board-are the seating arrangements in economy 2-3-2? and what is there as far as IFE goes-are there seatback TVs? Also what will the flying time be-it is scheduled for 7hours 35 mins but do transatlantics more often than not complete the flight under this time due to wind? And lastly has anyone used BAs online check in service on the website which I plan to use and is it good in choosing your own seats etc. if you book in 24 hours before as I am looking for good seats-I want a window seat on the right hand side!

NWH's economy does not have the seat back T.V's yet. The seats are in a 2-3-2 configuration. The best seats in the house are midway down the cabin on either the right or left. Book early to avoid disapointment!. Its flying time is around the 7 1/2 hours outbound and slightly shorter on the way back. I haven't a clue about the routing, but you can safely assume it will head out over the Irish sea at some point! The engines consume about 2 U.S. quarts of Mobil jet 2 oil on a round trip. The aircraft takes off with about 35-40000 kgs of fuel on it and lands with about 7500kgs left. The engineers inside leg measurement is 36"! I think that just about covers it!

Hardly. Try putting something on the Cabin Crew Forum as you might be able to contact one ot them. Take some snacks as the catering though tasty is only for those with small appetites. Have a good time, nice way to spend half-term.

Not sure if it makes a difference - as transatlantic routings vary, but my CO flight to MAN from EWR a short while ago landing on 6R came in straight over Dublin and over the Mersey estuary form memory.

Couldn't tell you about outbound to EWR from MAN though, because it was cloudy and I couldn't see the on-screen map from my seat.

As far as on-line checkin with BA, get an legroom seat by the window if you can - front row of Y class or by a door.

You will be flying on G-BNWH, it is the only one of BA's 767s not yet to be fitted with the new flat bed and IFE system, I believe it goes down to LGW to be done very shortly.

At the moment in economy (2-3-2) yo have a number of larger drop down monitors along the aisle ceiling, you will get to watch at least two movies and some other family type entertainment, or you could choose to listen to some of the audio channels.

The flight itself, looking at tuesdays forecast is likely to depart from 24L and will then head off on a wallasey departure up towards liverpool, the routing after that is very much dependant on the North Atlantic winds, more than likely it will be as you expect and take you somewhere over Ireland and the routing will head towards gander, newfoundland somewhere. That part of the journey will take around 3-4 hours, from there the routing tends to be more regular, you will basically follow the eastern seaboard down past Halifax and on past Bangor, Boston etc and start the desecnt into NY.
There are many approaches into JFK, the usual selection for BA will be either be almost a straight in approach to 22L, or the more complex (and better views for pax) is out over long island and then a series of right turns at low level to land on either 13L/R.
With regards to where to sit in economy, i'm not to sure, however a window seat on the left would give you the best views of manhatten island should the weather be reasonable and you get to land on 13L/R.

The guys flying you there will I'm sure to be more than happy for a flight deck visit either before or after the flight.
