Just heard on the grapevine that unless your middle name ifs "jag", "jagmate" or "jaguar" you have f@ck all chance of getting to typhoon.

Banter doing the rounds that CAS would, and i quote " rather have a jagmate with 2 hours than an F3 mate with 2000hrs in the typhoon"

Discuss!!!

Just goes to show that you do have to be pretty bright to get to be CAS!

Wasn't one of the main reasons cited for keeping the Jaguar force going asserted to be that it would thus maintain a core of single seat pilots ready for the introduction to service of the TypHoon?

I don't imagine for one moment that Binnsworth are appyling a Jaguapartheid approach to TypHoon manning requirements.....

Think you misheard. What CAS actually said was

"I'd rather have 2 hours with a Jag mate than watch an F3 mate with his 2000hrs of thai porn".

Doesn't matter iccarus, you aren't good enough anyhow! :D

Though to be fair, given your fuller physique, I'm sure that g-tolerance wouldn't be a problem :}

"I don't imagine for one moment that Binnsworth are appyling a Jaguapartheid approach to TypHoon manning requirements....."

Probably because most of Innsworth wouldn't know what a Jaguar is even if it bit them / ran them over.....

"Though to be fair, given your fuller physique, I'm sure that g-tolerance wouldn't be a problem"

Stand by for the rush of Nimrod drivers then.....

I flew a Hunter solo once (14 times actually) - can I have a go?

All you have to do is PVR, and then you get offered a slot...

Allegedly.....

If true, how come Parky (former F3 mate) is flying Typhoon? Or does a stint with the Reds qualify as a waiver to said policy?

I understand that the original plot was for each squadron to have four single-seat OS pilots (eg Jagmates), four ab initios, and eight F3 blokes. I don't know how much that has changed.

Funny...I heard the next Typhoon sqn Boss is an ex-Tornado GR mate?

The two current bosses are F3 geezers, worked with both of 'em as Flt Looies, and one of 'em when a JP QFI. Nice blerks.

I'd heard it was going to be Gordon's brother :)

Jacko's theory provides a balance - don't know about the exact numbers though. As for the Jag mates, it is a good idea to get them used to being the hunter rather than the target  and then to use their background when the A-S capability comes on line.

They are something of an elite, since only the best were streamed single seat FJ, and are thus worth retaining.

They also have experience of single-seat TIALD, and have been used to IDM, Helmet sights, a paper tidy (if not paperless) cockpit, and so may have a useful contribution to make, alongside the AD expertise offered by the F3 blokes.

I have a mate, quite a young mate at that, who was one of the first to go through as an instructor on the new beast...he is (was) an F3 pilot.

Understand that a Typhoon geezer has already been offered 'sorry services not required'. Air Force falling to bits etc. etc. Gonna carry across to all fleets. From what I gather, the PMA guestimatte for the next 6 yrs was a little left of the mark. Whooops.

Never mind, those of us that are left will cover the defecit(sp!)

Well, if anyone needs 75kg of ballast in their back seat, do feel free to call....:ok:

Hmm, not too sure if that could be misconstrued.....

Old story, Iccarus. As an example, 2 out of the 3 flt cdrs on 3 are F3 mates, and the other one always wanted to be one.............
