My current contract will be terminating working for a major handling agent at BHX in a couple of weeks, and have been informed that Thomsonfly will be holding a number of open days at their training centre at EMA, as well as at a couple of their outstations.

I'm interested to know if anyone could answer the following questions;

1) Are the contracts for Thomsonfly Charter different to Thomsonfly Scheduled?

2) What are rosters & pay like? (Specifically for CVT/DSA/EMA but any information would be appreciated!)

3) Are you trained on all types in the fleet or specific aircraft?

4) Any general comments are appreciated also ...

Thanks in advance for any information. x.

Contracts are now exactly the same for scheduled and charter, next summer most bases will have a mix of schedule and charter flights and it will be difficult to distinguish the difference between them.

Aircraft types depends on bases, at the moment CVT & DSA are only on the 737 fleet. Where as EMA are 757/767 checked.

CVT & DSA are rostered in a different way to any of the traditional Britannia bases as they are rostered to CAP371, where as EMA is rostered to several union agreements, such as only 4 flights between paired days off. Also at DSA & CVT crew clean the aircraft on scheduled flights, where as Britannia bases cleaners are contracted.

Any more questions just ask.

-tfly scheduled from cvt at least are on a permenant contract. i am due to start with tfly from cvt in the new year.

-this is the only base, i think which will stay totally scheduled as the rest will have charter incorperated into their schedules for the new season.

-from what people who i have spoke to who already work for them have said, is that you tend to do 2 sector days with 4 sectors occasionally.you dont usually have more than 2 days off at a time.

-also pay wise tfly scheduled from cvt, ive been told including all you comms and flight pay your looking to come out with £900-£1400 depending on the season.

-anyone with anymore info would be appreciated and please correct me if im wrong.

All scheduled bases will have a mix of flying as flights will carry both charter and scheduled pax together, this is part of the move towards Thomsonfly's mixed model flying.

Coventry is the only airport that does not have specific "Scheduled" or "Charter" flights, all flights operate with the low-cost airline formula. All other bases are essentially keeping their charter operation formula, but are selling seat-only at attractive low-cost prices. As far as I'm aware there are no differences besides CVT crews sometimes have a four-sector day, whilst most other bases only have two.

When you apply for a specific base, you will be trained on the aircraft that are based there. I've been trained on the 737s for the CVT base, although having previously worked at EMA have 757/767 training. Am not sure whether new recruits are now trained for all types but don't think this is the case.

I recently heard that TOM want all shorthaul flights to operate with a no-frills, fast-turnaround, cabin-tidy approach - rather than bringing on cleaners. Personally I can't imagine any Greek airport or some Spanish ones managing with a 30-minute turnaround.

Flights from traditional Britannia bases are still to have cleaners, as it is in the traditional Britannia crews t&cs that we do not have to carry out cabin tidys.
