I would be interested to hear of anyones experiences in Sudan or more importantly the area around Yrol in the Bahr Al ghazal region. How safe is it to be there and fly there?

Ok, where do i start...!!

I have frequented 99, 8 % of Africa's countrys and by far one of the most hideous, disgusting, disturbing , revolting, nightmarish country's must be Sudan!!!

Besides DRC, Sudan is the ass end of the world.

Airfields are not maintained there are no nav aids, spiralling in and out is the norm!!

good luck. be sure to take out life insurance!!

well. i have been flying in Sudan for a while, from Darfour to Bahr el jebel. Really not that bad. Fly a lot.
The Atc is Bad, so is their english
All caravans fly VFR flight plans and the weather gets pretty bad,
A spaid works well, and is needed in the van

Yirol is a dirt strip en-route from Rumbek (HSMK) to Juba (HSSJ) if you look on a map, there is a good one available on the UN topography site.

Dunno about living there but in and out its alright.

The security situation down in the south is more stable now that a "peace" agreement has been signed but tribal conflict is still on-going. No SAM-7's or RPG's but the odd small arms might be aimed your way.

PM me your email if you want further details about the Sudan.

Make sure you're in a 'Van or Twotter, then it's great fun - no bullets have been intentionally fired at me that I know of!

Sudan?

1. Find the Horned One's rectum.

2. Stick your arm about two feet up it.

That should do the trick if you don't have a GPS programmed for Hell.

Contracts aren't for everyone it seems....maybe try a new career path in life if its that bad.
I wonder if those that make negative comments here and say they have done 99.9% of the 54 african countries actually have sometimes?....

Sudan is, as any place "what you make of it" ..... plenty parties, booze, sailing on the nile, sheesha and 1kg t-bones kind of do it for me.....not to mention the miriad of aid workers that are keen on getting their "wings"...

Granny....Try it - enjoy it - its not the worst place to be....and i HAVE done 96.29%....
