ANGRY passengers have vowed never to fly with Ryanair again, saying they were left in the lurch by the cutprice airline on Saturday night.
Scores of people who booked a flight to Dublin turned up at Bournemouth airport to be told they were facing a long delay to their trip.
A mechanical problem with the Ryanair plane was blamed for the hold-up on the service due to leave at 6.10pm from the Hurn airport.
The flight eventually left at 9.45pm after Ryanair flew in a replacement plane.
But some passengers say they abandoned their journey after being told they would have to wait until midnight for a flight.
Diving journalist James Burns, 41, from Poole, was set to give a seminar to members of the Irish Diving Federation yesterday but cancelled his plans after hearing of the long delay.
"We were told there wouldn't be a plane available until ten past midnight, so I asked if I could go home to wait," he said.
"But they said if I took my bags back, I was off the flight, so I just went home again."
He added: "I won't ever fly with Ryanair again. I was really disgusted with the way we were treated."
Marion Griffin, 46, from Canford Heath was planning to visit a friend in Dublin, but also abandoned her trip after being told of the hold-up.
"I went through check-in and then I heard there was going to be a delay until at least midnight, so I gave up and went home."
Airport spokeswoman Sally Windsor said passengers were told at around 5.30pm that it would be midnight before the flight to Dublin would leave.
"Passengers then had two options - either to wait for the flight or ask for a full refund, and some people took the decision to leave," she said.
"We then got a message through from Ryanair at around 6.15pm that there would be a replacement flight at around 9.30pm."
A spokesman for Ryanair was unavailable for comment.
