Hey. I'm looking for a bit of help....

Im currently doing an assignment on the development of UK airports since the end of WWII and so i'm looking to find some statistics regarding the increase of passengers since around the 1960s or the beginnign of the jet age...

Ive looked on baa.com and the CAA website but the records dont seem to go back that far.

If anyone can email me with graphs etc I'd be very grateful

Cheers

Try calling tthe CAA library at Aviation House, Gatwick. I used it a few times for university & work assignments in the past and the staff there are very helpful. I'd be very surprised if they were unable to help you get the sort of statistics you require. The library is open to the public but their photocopiers were a tad pricey.

I think ICAO (http://www.icao.org/) publish airport traffic stats - the CAA have these in their library. You could also try IATA (http://www.iata.org/index.htm) or the Airports Council International (ACI - http://www.airports.org/cda/aci/display/main/aci_content.jsp?zn=aci&cp=1-2^4382_9_2__). Good luck.

This link contains a list of Aerodrome operators which may be of use, some of the web sites have historical details.

...or you could try ringing the Heathrow Visitor Centre on 020 8745 6655. They are generally very enthusiastic and will help you if at all possible.

And if your anywhere near Heathrow I would recommend dropping into the visitors center. Its on the side of the runway on the Bath Road opposite the Marriott hotel and is free. Well worth the visit!

A few years back I had a requirement for similar stats. I called the CAA up in London and explained what I needed. They had copies of various statistics which were available for purchase, however as i was a student at the time they would give them to me free of charge. I hopped on the train and picked them up the same day...

Don't know if they would do it nowadays but you can always try...
