How many FR 737 orders???

Hi folks,

I would like to know how many 737's does Ryanair has on order with Boeing.
Om Boeing's page they say it's 75:

And on PPJN site they say it is 152 firm orders with option for 184:

Confirmed B738srs order 229
In Service 83
Outstanding order 146 (Due between now and 2012)

Plus several further options (Anyone have a confirmed figure?)

According to a press release on Ryanair's website they exercised 9 more options yesterday for delivery in 2007 (3 Sept, 2 Oct and 4 Nov). In the same timeframe they plan to sell 5 737-800s delivered in 1999.

By their reckoning they currently have 83 738s and 9 732s.This change means that there are 156 more firm orders to be delivered (by 2012), minus the 5 mentioned above, plus 179 options remaining for 2008-2014.

Selling the first 5 738s is an interesting move - financial jiggery pokery, forced because early 738s can't be retrofitted with winglets (I believe Transavia are replacing their first 2 738s for the same reason), or evergreening as they claim?

Doesn't quite square with the theory that early 738's can't be retrofitted.
They can also fit 73 Classics, 757's, 767's and 747's.

My theory is that Ryanair are returning aircraft to the lessors before the maintainance costs get too high.

All B738's can be retrofitted with winglets.

Its just that the earlier 738's require additional strengthening and ballest (90 lbs per wing?) adding weight. The outer flight spoilers have reduced travel in flight.

More recent B738's already semi prepared for the fitout.

Probably giving them back because they are commited to taking the new ones,can't recruit pilots quickly enough to crew them (now that the short-term relief provided by the Boeing strike is over)and they are, anyway, getting a bit rough around the edges after 6 years of TLC 8 sectors a day by our lovely pax with one cleaning a day.If you can't stop the new ones coming in the frontdoor dump the old ones out the back!Suspect in the current industry wide climate they probably pay less lease charges for new than they pay/payed for the first ones.
