Just got an SMS that the An-12 belonging to Tim Roman landed short at Buta resulting in 2 deaths (PAX). This is not good for Roman as all freighters are now banned from carrying any PAX at all. No doubt Mr Roman will get off scot free due to his connections, more is the pity.

REPORT:

On 04 October 2005, a Congolese AN 12 aircraft, registration # 9Q-CWC, met with an accident while landing at ARU. It was carrying an unspecified number of XXXXXXX onboard
During the crash, the aircraft structure largely remained intact yet PAX died and eleven were injured
(of whom three were in serious condition)

This accident is a grim reminder of the need to follow safety instructions, especially during take off and landing. If the passengers were seated on regular, crash resistant seats and were 'Buckled up', so many casualties may not have occurred.
Also, while exiting the aircraft after the accident, a passenger seems to have run into the rotating inboard propeller blades .
Thus, it is very important to be aware that rotating propellers (or helicopter rotor blades for that matter) can kill. One UN staff member had lost his life last year when he walked into the tail rotor blades of a helicopter.
