EK is almost doubling the number of seats available to Glasgow each day, but not by doubling frequencies as previously indicated, but by changing equipment. From early this month, the route will be served once a day using the new B777-300ER, configured in two classes, and now offering 427 (I think) seats each day!

Additionally, one of the twice daily services to MAN, previously ops on A332/772 mixed equipment, will now be dedicated on a 773 ER as well.

This, combined with the new additional daily services to and from LHR (EK029 / EK030), means that the carrier is now offering at least 13 flights per day from the UK.

Keep discovering indeed..........

Now the 777 Er's are being delivered late due to the strike in Seattle. So at the moment 330's are still doing GLA and 777-200/330 doing the MAN's.

Also just heard that there is no EK Engineering coverage at Glasgow for the 777-300ER yet either. So another reason for the delayed start to services using that equipment.

Ek fleet comprises of B777-200, B777-200ER, B777-300 and 5 B777-300ER's. My understanding is that they do service GLA on the varients of 777 depending on the load. Yes they do have B777 Maintainence coverage.

Just saw an excellent picture on airliners.net of the 777-300ER at GLA, departing back to DXB on 1st October. The belly advertising looks fabulous in the shot.

Seems I was wrong in the comments above about engineering coverage. But, heard it from an EK pilot. Just goes to show that even they are sometimes wrong!

The engineering point is not wrong, the facts are as follows.

Monarch were to have two certifying staff on a 777 course during the summer, but this was cancelled as EK decided to open their own engineering base for the start of the 773 services.

However EK decide to only have one certifier and two mechanics, these guys have been recruited, and have been in DXB and on courses etc. Monarch have been asked to carry on with the 330 turnrounds in the short term and to provide assistance when possible to the EK operation and there has been talk of coursing some of the monarch guys with 777 cover as it is at BHX.

At the end of the day it appears that although EK have opened up a base at GLA there will still be back up from Monarch.
