Have just installed iTunes and downloaded a few things from it. But have just found out that Windows Media Player has lost all sound.

As WMP is my default player, I've no sound to play most of the music or film I have stored.

Does anyone know what iTunes might have altered? If I have to, i'll just de-install it but is there another way?

Thanks!

A windows-using friend of mine had similar problems, with WMP becoming buggy after installing iTunes 5. Using a little trial and error, this is what we eventually came up with, which worked for her:

Do a system restore to before the iTunes install (uninstallers or the win software uninstall are not to be trusted IMHO)

Download the latest version of iTunes here (http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/) (it was updated to version 5.01 last week)

Install as normal... but ensure you leave unchecked any boxes which ask you to make iTunes or Quicktime your default media player

Hope this helps.

My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types.

Show file suffixes and the program used to open and run them, e.g. MP3. Scroll down to the ones you want opened by WMP and use "change" to select WMP as the preferred program.

Never thought I'd hear myself saying this but I'm thinking about (well, starting to think about thinking about) going back to WMP from iTunes. It's obviously not designed to work easily with Windows, and it's starting to give me the toms.

But for now, can anybody tell me how to UNORGANISE the music folder having accidentally clicked on organise. I now have about three hundred folders (one for each artist) with an average of two files in each. I just want my files all listed sequentially without folders, but unticking the box makes no difference. Apart from selecting each folder, dragging the one or two files in it into the iTunes folder then deleting the original folder, three hundred times, is there any other way I can get rid of all these bloody folders?

Poor Binos :(

There is no 'undo' for this feature unfortunately. Hindsight being the great thing that it is, only making a backup of your Music Library prior to pressing the button would have enabled you to restore the previous state.

The only thing that might save you is if you've not yet synced to your iPod from the new 'organised' library. Using a utility such as iPod.iTunes (http://www.crispsofties.com/) should allow you to rebuild your iTunes library from the iPod. Not sure if this is what you wanted to hear, but hope it helps.

Ps I found a thread (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/388264.html) on an Oz-based site that is discussing the very same issue. Consensus seems to be that the organise function grows on you once you've got used to it..

Hmm, thanks WxJx, not really what I wanted to hear but fairly unarguable. Bugger. :(

Jeez, are there some geeks on that site or what? :ooh:

Ubergeeks, mate.. just like their British equivalents on ADSLGuide (http://www.adslguide.org.uk). Useful in a crisis though ;)
