Check the website www.flugwerk.de click P-51. At least they started to build parts for Mustangs. I heard also they are working on new ones.

the programme is likely to be contracted by Flugwerk to Aerostar SA of Bacau Romania who also produced the Flugwerk FW190 which has/did not run to planned/intended production numbers - the P51 project amongst others has been finalised at Aerostar however no production has yet been started

US company has also produced repro Japanese fighters (Ki-61? Oscars?) and I think another a pair of repro or semi-repro Zeros.

So to summarize:
The Americans are copying a 60+ year old Japanese Aircraft Design (role reversal here)
Also building German Aircraft to a 60+year old design
The Germans are sub-contracting the building American Aircraft of 60+ year old design to the Romanians, whilst knocking out a few FW190's also of 60+ year old design.

So because once this retro sort of thing starts, the next step will be the Chinese producing Hurricanes. The Australians producing Fiat CR42's and the Russians the Me163 (in it's YAK form with Tricycle undercarriage).

Meanwhile back in blighty the CAA will ban the lot of them and the EU will ensure you cannot insure them, and anyway with all the house buidling there wouldn't be anywher to fly them from.
But don't worry, Morgan will go back to building three wheelers.

As for Evening Star, Dried Frog Pills off the market as the Department of Health believe they cause you to see things as they really are. So suggest Harvey's Best Bitter in large quantities.

I've never seen Dried Frog Pills in the Evening Star, just some very strange bitters and ciders - delicious though! But I also pop round the corner to the Lord Nelson for the Harveys!

The Yanks may also have built some of the Yaks - or did they just miss a letter out?

They were looking at a replica Me163 as well - hence Dick Rutan hurtling around Mojave in a rocket powered VariEze!

Me 163 Projects and real Replicas:
In the USA there is a currently moribund project to build a powered flying replica: XCOR Aerospace Project (http://www.xcor.com/me163.html)

But in Germany, there was for while a flying Glider replica:
Mr Kurz' flying glider replica (http://www.xs4all.nl/~robdebie/me163/kurz.htm)

For a design which never matured and was at the 'bleeding' edge of aerodynamics and materials technology (e.g, HTP Vapour and leaks from fuel lines and connectors coming into contact with organic organisms, such as Pilots results in problems not normally experienced in combat cleared aircraft). This aircraft continues to attract considerable interest.

During the War the Japanese produced 'test' and production versions - Culminating in:

The Germans did develop the concept into the Me 263

Which the Russian Developed into the Mikoyan I-270 (which I wrongly attributed to YAK):

In the UK after a couple of test flights of an Me 163 (by WInkle Brown ?) We went off and had a think. Deciding mixed power was the way to go for a nice simple point interceptor (which is what the Me 163 was), the very pretty SR 53 was the result.

By which time the requirement changed and the SR 53 became purely a test bed for a much more complex beast. Avro and SR both went for it and the SR 177 should have been the result:

but it was 1957 and that was that!
