Help

My PC brings up the following page when switched on
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive ito make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

technical information:

***STOP: OXOOOOOO7B (OXF993F524, OXC0000034, OXOOOOOOOO, OX00000000)

This page comes up every time, I haven't installed any new hard drives and I can't get passed here to run the said check. I can't get the thing to start in safe mode or last known working configuration as it always ends up back here

I'm running (hopefully!) windows XP service pack 2

Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks
