Its true!!

They are planning to start up in 4-6 weeks. 2 x 747-400 for now. Based in JHB and a further 744 for next year.

Flying to Europe and back. Next year to include South America.

Should be good, it appears all the first option seats are taken, wait for the next crew...

I really hope that this is not another CIVAIR, taking passengers money as issuing tickets long before the aircraft arrives.

Scares the  t out of me since the same crowd of EX SAA retired crew that was involved with CIVAIR is now also in the seat for these guys.

Pity that these ex SAA retired pilots get to operate these aircraft. It passed my mind what they are going to do about the 60 years of age rule in Europe.

I think these boys should just retire and fly their kites on weekends, give the youngsters a chance!!!!

Not so sure the youngsters are going to feel the same when reaching the age of 60 and told their days are at an end in the industry and they have still a s$%tload to contribute.
Know quite a few guys at that point now and can tell u that they would be a premature loss to all of us who are still learning should they be unfairly booted out of a way of life that is their passion.
Get real......at what age does a lawyer, doctor. dentist, president etc have to throw in the towell. As long as fitness is not a factor.....keep on going...U have my vote.:ok:

With over 60 year old captains, what routing will they be flying the ACC-LON sector? They won't be allowed to overfly France. They also won't be allowed to fly to the States

this sounds remarkably like a Boag/Butler set up. why the ghana registration? crew employed by boag international also resigned from their jobs and were given contracts to operate on a ghana aoc.nothing but a lot of really dissapointed people left now.a search on google using the spelling cantoun brings up another forum with the same info about ownership but little else.

Well, why always have negative feelings about a new operator, see how 1Time has gone from success to success in a year's time, seen in Mauritius AND Baghdad!!!
Life is full of surprises, who wants to fly to Gatwick, rather busy and overcrowded Heathrow?? AND other destinations !!
Why should a new operator make itself known so the opposition can try to " slaughter " it and keep its R6.5 bn .......in the red......
Keep on guessing..... look at the sky in a few months, and keep a positive attitude!!
From the flying world somewhere, Indonesia, or Hawaii, or Bankok, or Pakistan, or New York!!! for new bussiness and landing rights....!!!

Word of caution guys,

I have it on very good authority that the SA Air Service License Council has not received any application from this airline yet, this means no AOC which means no operation for at least three months due to the fact the the last sitting is in beginning Dec and I believe that one is fully booked. If they go non-SA for a schedule ops they need approval from the same council so me thinks this is not happening soon.:yuk:

:hmm: ..Heard from a person who knows a person who knows a person at JIA that the latest going around is that Cantaun has gone 'bung'..bankrupt, closed, not going to operate anymore...call it what you want to.

Seems that the financial backing has pulled out or something similiar. So now what we have is a lot of crew etc. who where promised all sorts of wonderfull things now sitting in the unemployed chairs.

Come on guys and gals.

Lets be realistic - so many rumours doing the rounds it is not true. They have not yet applied for their license here, UK or Ghana or the US for that matter, so I am led to believe.

With all these stories do you really think the airline will ever get up and running.

Feel desperately sorry for the crews they have employed. Where will they now find work?????????

Re Cantoun (Yogibear has the spelling wrong)

If you think that John Canterbury and Paul Ounder would lend their names to launching a bankrupt airline you must be from a different planet.
These two quiet individuals are behind the fifth largest private airline in the world whose profits are capable of sustaining any new start up.
I suppose Pprune can only exist with pilots creating bar talk.

I have been led to believe that the funding for this project is in the country but the government has not as yet released the funds to the airline.

My gripe is why employ 60 cabin crew and 20+ flight deck let them leave their jobs, if you don’t have the money in place to pay them a salary.

Sounds to me like the cart is before the horse……… This is not one of the best ways I know for management to instil confidence in its work force.

I am personally not impressed :(

MysticFlyer
5th Dec 2005, 07:43
Well the search will reveal that Beechjet, the guy on Sabbatical, said that it would be a sucessfull BEE project.

Well, obviously if the funds are released only. Before that they have made a rather mockery of hopefulls.

Well, remember what the B stands for, unBEElieveable, it's got some STING.

GormanInkarnati
10th Dec 2005, 14:30
Not that difficult to understand why crews have not been paid.

Whenever a large sum of money enters SA it has to be scrutinized by the Reserve Bank to trace the origin, legit or not.

This takes time.

Good things come to those who can wait.

I told the bank that I have my house bond with, not to worry but they will just have to wait for there money.

I told my children that because their Dad hasn’t been paid a salary by Cantoun, that they won’t be getting Christmas presents this year.

Sorry must make this short as they are going to cut the electricity to the house so it will shut the computer off.

GI ……… I hope you are getting the point, as I mentioned in my post a few back, employ people when you have the funds in place to pay them, and not before.

We have left jobs in good faith that the management of Cantoun had all the bases covered, and that they know what they are doing, clearly not!!!!!!

Apology accepted mate,

You are quite correct about the tree and branch analogy. What you may not know is on the 1st of November Cantoun presented us all with written contracts of employment, and each contract was signed and counter signed by the relevant management people concerned.

We have been told by management that they will still honour the contracts and that we will be back paid the money that is owing to us, but that doesn’t help to pay the bills now.

I have fortunately been able to get another job, but there are lots out there that are not so lucky.

My point again is how stupid can management be to employ people let them sign contracts of employment knowing full well that they don’t have the money available to access for salaries, it’s a sick job.

Hi Guys.

These ****heads took a damn good employee from my business, doing me some damage in the process, then proceeded to keep him hanging for four months with a signed contract and not a cent paid, honestly, let's look at the names involved, with the possible exception of the"backers", not one credible businessman among them.
As for the "instructor" who was buying the aircraft, - honestly ! couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery - a history of half finished projects and broken promises !
Pity my poor ex employee with no way of meeting his home bond and feeding his wife - when will these kinds of people be held accountable?
Publish ALL their names I say, as a warning to those who would do business with them and let us not allow our friends to put themslves in financial jeopardy.
I will start with a name.......how about Keith Irwin ?
Luckily enough, my ex employee will now be a new employee as our business has expanded enough to re-emply him again.

I do have to agree with you, these guys need to be accountable for their actions.

The talk among those involved is that they are planning to start up in March, yes March this year… ja right, find it hard to believe as I hear still no licence applied for and the CAA have said that they will not allow the Cartoon charactures to operate on someone else’s charter licence.

I think Mr G. Doms (CEO) and the boys have elusions of grandeur and it is very sad that they have managed to thus far get away with treating fellow aviators this way

The rumour is that Cantoun Air International is poised to start for the second time.

I am led to believe that crew are to be recalled from the 4 corners of the globe to start training at the beginning of March 06. This is for a first flight in April.

Will the previously employed crew be as eager this time to leave their jobs again and join this Airline? Or will it not get off the ground this time due to a vote of no confidence on the part of those that were previously employed.

I believe the crew are still waiting for their salaries from the month of November 2005 onwards.
