Not Globespan, but a company called 'Your Florida Air' is starting GLA-SFB ops from next month, using a leased Excel 767.

Scottish based, home run operation, started by a guy who got frustrated at no regular GLA-SFB flights, so he decided to start an airline which does!

:suspect: How selfish. ;) GLA has more than enough, ok, maybe not during the winter, but maybe there is a reason for that?

As for Flyglobespan, they better not! They've all ready dropped the slogan, "Scotland's Low Fares Airline", removing the "Scotland" funnily enough! :(

With no expansion at both EDI and GLA for next summer it seems that Globespan will utilise the aircraft down at Stanstead and start expanding new routes.

If this is indeed their intention I can see a tough time ahead, as it won't be so easy for them as it has been up here with little competition.

One thing going for them is that they certainly have a good product.

I think this would be a big mistake! Flyglobespan has already (in they're short life) got themselves in a position of respectability regarding flights out of Scotland. I went to Paphos last year out of GLA and arrived nearly 1 hour early! Compare that with Excel! (wot a joke).
I urge Tom Dalrymple to continue wot he has started and focus on Scotland. Its the only way forward & to start flights from EDI to PFO!!! using the new 738!

The rumours at FGS are rife about long haul. Airbus 330, 340, Boeing 777, 767, Dreamliner, all being talked about. Whether anything has crystallised yet remains to be seen. I can’t see them just being content with GVA and TFS from STN.

With an ambition for long haul to the US and Canada, on paper at least, it would make sense to operate trans-Atlantic from STN and use the current EDI/GLA to STN routes as feeders. However, Your Florida Air hits the nail on the head, Scots passengers are pretty well fed up with the nauseating ‘connecting flight roundabout’ in order to get to Canada or the US. YFA is already doing well with its bookings and proves the point.

The one thing that makes FGS special is its national identity. Local Scots have warmed to this airline and have used it in great numbers. Breaking away to STN could alienate core customers and prove to be a dangerous move. If the national identity of FGS is weakened, it will leave the door wide open to someone like YFA to clean up on long haul at the very least.

As I said earlier, on paper it looks fine, but it may also indicate a lack of confidence in being able to sell sufficient tickets for direct flights from GLA, EDI or PIK. By comparison, a STN base provides an enormous catchment area and still gives the company opportunity to sell tickets north of the border. If this were to be the case and passengers north of the border allowed to think that they are getting a direct flight from Scotland, this could let a genie out of the bottle which won’t go back in.

So Tom, there you have it. Don’t f**k it up. Feed the long haul FROM STN not to it.

I'm sure when the conditions are right Mr Dalrymple will launch long haul flights from Glasgow. It might not be when the appropriate aircraft enters service, but then again it might. Rest assured it will happen sooner or later but only when it is considered a good bet so to do.

I'm sure Mr Dalrymple is quite capable of looking after his business and deciding whether it's best to feed STN from GLA or GLA from STN. He is after all a very succesful business man while the rest of us sit around pontificating on how he should do things.

Launching a long haul operation is totally different from starting a short haul service to PRG or PFO. The costs alone make treading very carefully an absolute must. History is littered with dozens of "start ups" that have had big plans but not had the sense to take things one step at a time. Ask yourself this. If there's such a market there now, why haven't numerous carriers filled GLA with aeroplanes jetting off across the pond? Yes there probably is a market, but is it big enough to sustain one or 2 767's being based there permenantly? Time will tell.

If Globespan survive and 767's arrive, I'm sure "as God made little green apples" that sooner or later you'll see them in red heading off west.

I seem to remember that the long-haul flights Globespan were thinking about were going to be operated under a different brand name not Flyglobespan, i believe its was going to be the states as canada is well served via GSP's partnership with Air Transat.
Years ago wehn Globespan had Excalibur there were going to be longhaul flights on a DC10 to Sydney, Los Angeles and i think Jo'Burg. But Excalibur went to the wall. (i still have the brochure somewhere for the Australia flights somewhere.)

So much for the Scottish based airline.

The drivel old Tom Dalrymple spouted in the Glasgow Evening Times recently about how the GVA route subsidy should have been given to them rather than "english" based easyJet and now he's going to start a route down south along with his Canary Islands service.......so much for serving the Scottish public. He's obviously following eJ's idea of serving the Scottish public!!!!!

If true then it's a bit hypocritical! :}

Presumably "further away than STN" means continental Europe? I think they'll have their hands more than full with EZY and FR at STN without trying to start any other new bases, particularly if they are abroad.

A 1st Nov start for STN-EWR does seem very early, particularly as I would guess they're going to be offereing a high-freq. lo-co tx service that's never really been done before. Whether it will work remains to be seen. If they are flying to NY, I'm kind of glad if it is STN and not GLA/EDI, as I would rather have CO than GSM! (and I'm not sure there's room for both). Hopefully GSM will start some sched. Florida flights from Scotland next summer.

Having said that, they do seem to have taken their eye off the ball in Scotland as we have seen no new routes for a while and one gets the impression that their route development activities will be focussed on STN for a while yet:( Nevertheless, they still offer a better Int. service from Scotland than EZY, who don't even seem to be replacing the soon to be ditched GLA-AMS run with another route:rolleyes: The rumours that were floating around 2-3 months ago regarding EZY Scottish expansion also seem to have gone cold.

Yep that's a "confirmed rumour" (Don't think that hold's any garantee though :-) )

an other one of those is the persistend rumour that GLA-AMS should be starting by 1st Nov. But again, how are you going to fill the plane if you don't make some noise...?

Rumour mill working overtime at the moment in GSM.... Lets wait and see.

Hello peeps,

Just been having a look at the 'Your Florida Air' website and it appears that they have answered a big question many of us have.

The long awaited winter service from GLA-SFB has been cancelled due to lack of bookings. No mention if this is long term but all pax that have booked are receiving thier monies back via cheque!!!

Pity, sounded good on paper :( :( :(
