According to the usually relieable "Deutschlandfunk"* the german nuclear power stations will be protected against aircraft attacks by GPS jammers.

A E.ON spokeswoman told DLF that operators of nuclear power stations have agreed with the Germam Federal Ministery of Environmental Protection to implement this kind of anti terror feature.

?????????????????

Since GPS data comes from satellites (not owned or controlled by the German authorities), how in hell do you jam them?

To prospective airbore bombers of German nucleal installations:

Keep flying with your GPS navigation until you get a "position lost" message. Then, you are probably over your target so you can do what you need to do.

That should be "airborne". Sorry, I don\'t know how to edit.

Jamming GPS is a very simple thing to do for the likes of the military

Here's an article about the subject:

Power stations are not the easiest things in the world to hide. Anyone with half a clue and a 1/2 mill (1:500,000) map) doesn't need GPS.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Some years ago a GPS jamming system was on sale at a trade fair in Moscow.

Yes, the Iraqis bought several sets. The Americans and British programmed anti-radiation missiles to home in on the jamming signal :}

The GPS signal is very weak. In fact it is weaker than the backround radiation at the relevant frequency, and it is only by some very clever physics that the signal can be recovered at all. Does not take a strong signal to jam. There is no need to have control of the satellites, jamming is about swamping or distorting a signal from another source.
