I heard today that certain companies are now identifying their customers (via cookies and so forth) and if they are regulars or appear to be shopping around will up the price. Amazon did just this a couple of years back

One of the comments attached to this claims a certain major airline is be doing this.

Has anyone got experience or knowledge of this or is it a myth?. When I have some time I will try a few sites and re-visit as a known and unknown customer just to check.

Surely if they are regular customers and the companies know they might lose out on the booking to another company they should be lowering the prices to attract their custom and loyalty?!?!

I haven't heard of this, but it would not surprise me in the slightest!

We've suffered the 0870 phone number scam - that's now here to stay! Expecting loyalty "reward" schemes to be self-financing through higher charges is probably some marketing manager's brainchild!

I wholeheartedly agree - regular customers should be rewarded for their loyalty without paying through the nose!
