Travel Insurance with medical condition

I have just spent all morning talking to various insurance companies, trying to get travel insurance with an existing medical condition. I am now getting seriously annoyed because all of the companies ask the same questions, even in the same order, but their reaction seems to make little sense to me. They either refuse or quote a very high premium with severe limitations.

I am trying to find someone who can offer me insurance taking into consideration my individual circumstances which do not appear to fit in with the questions asked about my condition.

Can anyone out there recommend a broker who can offer a more personal service for travel insurance i.e. one who doesn't just tick boxes on a computer screen.

The problem is that I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia earlier this year. Treatment involves a single pill every day and, for the last six months, my condition has been in remission and quite normal.

Even the CAA, not known for taking risks, has re-instated my Class 3 medical so that I can once again indulge in the full priviledges of my PPL. The regular monitoring that this requires means that I am actually at a low risk of an unexpected change in my condition.

What I need, if such a person exists, is an insurance broker who can arrange cover which meets individual needs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try some of the banks who give "Free" travel insurance when you have account type "X". My parents have a "Gold Account" (I think) with Lloyds TSB and part of the deal was free travel insurance.

Go to www.cancerhelp.org.uk which is the cancer research website. Type 'travel insurance' into their search function and you will get a list of brokers who specialise in cancer sufferers. I think you will find that most are fairly reasonably priced and judge each case on its own merits; they don't just have a set scale. Also www.travelhealth.co.uk have a list of brokers who may help.

Very helpful links, Nick. Thank you very much for the help. I had already found one of the brokers and they were not much better then the main ones but some of the others look quite promising.

PM, I have found that most of the "free" travel insurance offers only apply to young people in perfect health who promise not to take any risks at all.
