Nice reminder, good to see them still operating.

We spent a night a couple of years ago camping on the shore of Sproat Lake. Great to open the tent flap at dawn and see the 2 Mars' serenely floating there, then later watch one of them do an 'air test', including a drop on the trees at the end of the lake.

I hope they continue for a long time to come.

Cheers,

What an absolute beast she is! (But a beautiful one at that!)

You can now get a 1/144 scale model kit, either in the FIFT scheme, or yer actual US Navy.

I'd be tempted too, only it's £50, resin rather than plastic, and apparently needs rather more skill to assemble than I possess!

One day I'll get to Sproat Lake and hopefully see the real beasties fly!

Hah!

Indeed that's the kit! It was a co-operative effort between CMR and Mushroom Model Publications and I gathered a load of data from FT Inc and a visit to see the Mars, plus help from the great VP Navy website. (No links, no adverts). I'm pleased to say it was one of my bright ideas, and unlike most of the others it came off. Part of the process was getting 1/144 plans drawn up by Brian Marshall. He did a great job.

We'd like to have released a Tamigawa style shake n' bake kit, but we've found it hard selling even the few we produced, cos people keep ttheir hands in their pockets. Even at 50 squid none of us are making a profit outa this, it was a labour of love.

I wanted us to do a 1/24 version, but they kept hitting me. :( Even at 1/144 it fills a piece of A3 paper.

Reseraching the colour changes on the FT Mars was HARD, even with help from the FT guys. They've been firebombing for over 40 years now!

Cheers

Well done, JDK! It looks great.

Darn it, now you are making me feel guilty... perhaps if I remortgage the cat, send the spider out to work the streets...

I've been working on a couple of 1/48 resin kits - they do try my patience a bit, but I know someone who is ace at them.

"Shake and bake" at 1/48th and I'd have definitely had one, even it meant moving to a bigger house...
