Hi, fellas

I'd like to get a brain storming about this question regarding a normal
interview process.

Thanks.

Cheers.

Surely the response to that question has to be tailored to the specific company and your own personal situation?
Coming up with a generic 'yawn' answer like "I just wanna fly" I imagine isn't going to separate you from the crowd.... if you do the necessary research on the company you are applying to it should become obvious what the pros and cons are of the specific routes, possible basings, rosters etc etc that make the company different (or not) to their peers (e.g. a regional airline vs BA mainline)

Hi,

I also want to know the answer to that question.

Do you need to be honest to that question? In my case I try to apply to as many airlines as possible, but I don't really have a reason why i want to fly for X company. There are however some companies where I really do want to fly for (for instance the big legacy/major airlines)

To sum up my reasons:
I just want to fly for my living. To have a decent salary, Good management, good rosters not having to pay my type rating. Be able to be at home now and then.

Although I have never worked with an airline before (as pilot) these are one of my reasons that i want to work for X company.

But the total vacancies are so limited that I just send my CV and letter to every company with wings :D and hope for the best. I am already glad when they will call me for interview I am even glad when they send me a letter telling me that they put me on file (whatever that means  )

Maybe the real pilots who already been to this proces can shed some light on this matter and what worked for them (as reason)

It is a question that does not have a set answer. We all have different reasons that encourage us to apply to specific airlines. The companies that appeal to me could be totally different to what may interest you. Don't think think about flying but think of the bigger picture e.g lifestyle. Things like no nightstops, stable rosters, based where you want to be are things that I brought up at the interview for my second job.

Just out of interest, and i'm sure this will spark a huge debate! Which UK airlines are considered the/one of the best to work for?

I know BA used to be highly regarded, but in terms of t&c's, pay, enjoyment etc. who are now considered the best, or one of the best to work for?

Look forward to reading your replies!

Hello,

For what i gather in PPRuNe, Virgin Atlantic seems a pretty good airline to work, if you do a search for VS threads im sure you will notice that.

:ok:

I'm very happy at Virgin, but I think you'll find that Britannia is also a happy place to work. Terms and Endearments is the place to get a feel for how people feel about their employers.

Fougamonster:-

You might be lucky and be right, or you might believe it until about 5 weeks after your line training ends....

Good luck either way.

Monarch were great when i joined 10 years ago. Very good bunch to fly and socialise with. Longhaul trips were like holidays, ranging from 3 to 10 days. Interesting network on the 757 with various routes worldwide. Nice aircraft to fly. Things have changed now i believe, with the 330 doing most longhaul. Moved too early i think, joined Virgin, generally good bunch to fly and socialise with. After 3 years found the limited routes on 744 boring. Add commuting to the equation and it was time to call it a day due to being continually tired. I think i would have enjoyed the 340 network better. Overseas with EK now. Rgds.

Hello everyone, Im new to this forum, this is my new post, so forgive me if i don't fit in with my questions and all, ill adjust. I recently converted my ratings from FAA to JAA here in Turkey and i will be a F/O soon. After flying here for a few years i wish to move out of Turkey to another nation, i like to plan ahead and research, so i was wondering what people have to say about the airlines they are working for now, the good and the bad, and what airlines they would recommend and for what reasons, as a F/O.

So far i have looked in Southwest, Jetblue, Easyjet, Cathay pacific, Air new Zealand....

There are many airlines i don't know about too, and id like to make some connections and online friends on pprune!

thanks!

Hello Aydin,

It seems to me that you are looking for an adventure.
Normaly when you have a decent job in your homeland you stay there. Why do you want to go so faraway?
I spend 6 years away from my country and I can tell you one think. East or West Home is best....

Good luck,

Dizo

Ive got no problems with British airlines employing europeans, as long as its reciprocated.

BUT IT ISNT!!!!!!!

Hi DB,
Unfortunately I believe that this is due mainly to the fact that native English speakers are generally lazy when it comes to learning a foreign language unlike our continental brothers.

Willby..

why bother learning another language - English is the universal language of aviation!
(Though you wouldn't think it in some FIR's - ever heard Yangon mangle it?)

pilotaydin

"BUT IT ISNT!!!!!!!"

sure it is.....the captain of the Greek Airline Helios was GERMAN, flying in Cyprus.....

Turkish Charter airlines have foreign pilots....Belgians, French, We had British pilots work for TUrkish airlines and American ones when we first bought the RJ100s.....

IF you wanna come to Turkey and work here for an airline..., with the acception of THY, you can work for just about any right now....
Inter Airlines has 10 pilots from overseas..some Brazilian, some Dutch

Why bother with anything then, if that is the attitude to have?

I think we all know that English is the most spoken language in aviation, but it is not the only official language in aviation...

Best airline to work? Virgin Atlantic!

Agreed.

And, Duff Beer, you got any statistics to suggest that Brits can't get jobs elswhere yet foreigners are more likely to gt a job here than Brits?

Thought not. :hmm:
