Did the Lynx that holds the world speed record have the gearbox tilted fwd more than a normal lynx ?. I remember reading that this was done to reduce drag at high speed. The side effect would be I guess that is would hover more tail down .What other mods were done ?.

There were a few as I remember, but Gaffer-taping the doors closed was the last one before flight.

Not as far as I know, but it was seriously stripped down and required a bit of a rebuild afterwards. Still see it now and again.

The a/c in question was completely refurbished especially for its one and only flight to recover the world speed record.
Apart from a stiffened tail cone, the engines were modded to drink a nitro mix and the blades were especially designed for the purpose, they were the fore runners of the 'berp' tip. During the display, it achieved a world speed record (for its class)of 201kts fwd / 70kts rearward and sideward. It was alsolooped and rolled...got the tape!

Not only did they fiddle with the fuel and spend a lot of time reducing the parasite drag of the airframe and rotor head, they cheated and modified the exhausts to point aft with a convergent duct shape to gain extra thrust in a conventional jet engine manner. All's fair in love and commerce.

Crab:

So what you're saying is that we in the 76 world shouldn't have any 'Lynx' envy when it took our record of 182.5 Kts straight and level! No mods or hanky panky. Just a good old Kevlar Kiddie Kar!
