Nightmare scenario may have me landing in LHR on VS006 at 07:55 - and departing LHR on VS300 at 22:00 on the same day.

Having just crossed the Atlantic on an overnight flight in zoo class (or, just possible, premium zoo), preparing for another overnight zoo/premium zoo class flight to Delhi - and having seen the Tom Hanks movie, The Terminal - does anybody have any suggestions for a non-suicide inducing day stop in LHR?

Book a hotel room perhaps?

Yes, book a hotel, some of the airport hotels have special rates for day rooms, also would you qualify for some sort of discount? Unless of course you have so much energy that you head into London and do some shopping or sightseeing. After which you should be able to get a good sleep on your next leg.

Mind you a nice massage might be beneficial.

At least you can relax and have a good wash and brush up.

Have a good trip.

The Heathrow Airport (http://www.heathrowairport.com/) site has some info. Try 'Airport Information' and hotels does emerge eventually. Or try Expedia or similar sites for hotels at LHR.

Thanks for the replies - although I didn't say in as many words (didn't actually think I needed to), it was a day stop (or club lounge of some sort) that I was thinking of.

I was hoping for a suggetsed name, or two. I'll try PAXboy's linl.

I'd get a daystop room and go to Windsor by bus if you get bored/wake up, its not too far away.

Ah, if it's only a number of hours and you do not really want to leave the terminal. Then there is a landside lounge that you can buy into until check in is open for the next sector.

It is just outside T1. Check the BAA website under T1 and then Business Services. It is in the building that sits to the imemdiate South of T1. As you are in T3, take the tunnel through to T1 and then up to Departures. Follow the walkway from the International end of the hall. Follow the signs as if you are going to T2 and you start offf along a corridor through the middle of the building. If you emerge into a glass sided walkway at 1st floor level ... you've missed it!

On the BAA site, I found this link The Heathrow Business Centre (http://www.heathrowairport.com/portal/controller/dispatcher.jsp?CiID=0c85c62233382010VgnVCM100000147e120a____&CtID=448c6a4c7f1b0010VgnVCM200000357e120a____&Ct=B2C_CT_GENERAL&RootCh=Airport%20Information&Ch=Meeting+Rooms&ChID=7c8cb854ab522010VgnVCM100000147e120a____&ChPath=LHR%5EAirport+Information%5ETerminal+1%5EBusiness+Ser vices%5EMeeting+Rooms&ChIDPath=bde597dc2eb12010VgnVCM100000147e120a____%5E473797dc 2eb12010VgnVCM100000147e120a____%5E2c444bd3e2522010VgnVCM100 000147e120a____%5Edde54bd3e2522010VgnVCM100000147e120a____%5 E7c8cb854ab522010VgnVCM100000147e120a____) As far as I know, it's the only landside lounge. On that page, click on Travelex and you get all the details and a map and can download a pdf brochure. You cannot sleep there - other than slumped in a chair. However, if you do not want to check into a hotel and are OK to stay on-site, this is the place. (Although I have not used it for about a year.)

Nah - still not working out.

I'm more for the hotel - just hoped for a good recommendation - but looked at the lounges out of curiosity.

£17.50 for entry to the lounge - includes unlimited tea, coffee, nuts, pretzels, access to internet and washrooms/toilets. Not a bad idea for when I'm on a normal trip.

Down side is that entry appears to be restricted until 3 hours before departure. So, it's £17.50 for three hours (well, two if you include loading a 747 - one and a half if you have to walk to the gate, too).

I'm still with either the hotel or a cardboard box under the viaduct - but which one?

The Travelex Business Cente is not very comfortable and pretty boring for a whole day.

I'd try to do a day room deal with the Sheraton Skyline, they have an interesting atrium lounge with a pool (you can swim in it, but its primarily decorative) and also a sports bar with TV and reasonably priced food (by 4* hotel standards.)

The hotel is near the airport and you can pay GBP5 for a return ticket on the Hotel Hoppa bus or get near there on a free intra airport service.
