In the process of looking to place BAE146 aircraft into Nigeria.

Someone has bad mouthed the ALF502 R5 (on the 146-300) and said that anyone operating in Nigeria should be only taking the ALF507 available on later models as the 502 will "constantly be in the shop for overhaul / repair..."

If anyone out there has any info could be used in defence of the 146-300 fitted with the ALKF502 operating in Nigeria - would be most grateful.

just make sure the rollback mods are done for a start...

the 507s were fitted to the "RJ" models as opposed to the 146 series 502s but presumably some 146s have been refitted with 507s?

In its' very early days the ALF502 had reliability problems - and I mean early days like nearly 25 years ago - the 502 has a relatively low HSI limit (compared to say a JT8) due to the type of engine it is (based on a helicopter turboshaft and with modular construction 'blisks' etc.) however although more regular the shop visits are simpler and cheaper. Early 146's are going to suffer from problems of being 15-20+ years old and need some TLC but nothing worse than the competition

In my opinion there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 146 and no real issues with its' operation or support

No 146's have ever been retrofitted with the 507 that I am aware.

All 146s have the 502s, except for a batch of 300s built for China Northwest, which have 507s but without FADEC.

You can get a power-by-the-hour contract that guarantees your costs.

If your engines are not on the Honeywell programme then be prepared for cash heartache....bigtime! :{
