Torque-less Rotor Drive Schemes

Hi Rotorheads,
I've always been intrigued by torque-free rotor drive systems, so I developed one of my own. What experiences, if any, have you fellows had with tip-jet designs, cold or hot, or with prop-driven rotors. I rather enjoy criticism, at least the creative type.

The props are quite inefficient ways to transmit power, typical prop efficiencies are less than 90%, small ones even worse.so the rotor loses are quite high here. A main transmission loses about 2 to 3%, and the tail rotor system is typically 3 to 6%, so if the two are compared, they don't quite break even, and you gave up yaw maneuverability in the deal.

On the other hand, Igor Benson is a genius, and a wonderful enthusiast. I met him once, and he was a really wonderful guy.

There was a thread on the PropCopter about 9 months ago. The bottom line, if I remember correctly, was that it had never lifted off with a pilot and never would be able to lift off with that weight.

My only recollection of a jet-driven rotor was when, as a kiddie, we used to live near the airfield where the Fairey Rotodyne was being tested.

It was far and away the noisiest thing that I ever heard! Unbelievable racket - I believe that's one main reason why the idea was shelved.
