Jayrow Crash

Rumours from the NT say that a Jayrow Bell 206 crashed at the weekend while engaged in sling operations.

The aircraft was pulled nose over by the load snagging an obstacle or the ground and the pilot sustained spinal injuries according to bush sources.

Aircraft was VH FHZ the bushman says.

Any more info out there?

Helicopter incident
"A helicopter pilot crashed this morning in the Mary River Wetlands approximately 10 kilometres north-north-west of Shady Camp in an area locally known as “Bad lands” after experiencing difficulty.

At about 10.00am Police Communications were notified by AUSSAR that the aircraft had been carrying out sling operations on Tommy Cut Creek in the vicinity of Wildman River.

Plant operators in the area extricated the pilot and shut down the helicopter before calling for assistance and treating the pilot.

Initial response was conducted by AUSSAR and Jayrow Helicopters who sent a second helicopter to the area with a doctor and paramedic on board.

The 51-year-old male pilot was treated at the scene and then transported to Wildman River by helicopter before being medivacced to Darwin by the Northern Territory Aerial Medical Service.

Palmerston police later attended the scene and conducted investigations into the incident. A gust of wind may have caught the helicopter before being able to release its slung load, forcing the helicopter into a dynamic roll causing it to crash into the ground.

It’s believed the male pilot suffered suspected back injuries but are not life threatening."

But get your facts correct.

The load was two drums, looked like 200 litre drums of something?

If that was drill water, then around a total of 400 kgs plus the drums and cables.

More likely Jet A1, therefore, 320 kgs plus the gear, either way within a Jetrangers capacity.

The Base Camps airstrip was less than 15 km from the site, therefore the fuel load should be on the light side.

I think that heavier lift job around the river is done with the 350, or the twin.

Loved that Top End, spent many hours in a green suit through the area, great! The tropics certainly beats Sydney town.

Who was the pilot? anyone know.
