View Full Version : Surviving A Fatal Crash

dont know how to start these stories that i've told about a hundred times, but here it is'
I called it atal crash because on the final approach of our flight GP571 the check pilot whose holding the left yoke in the cockpit somehow miscalculated the runway threshold and hit our right main landing gear causing the aircraft right prop. and right engine to hit the runway and ignite.
well the details of our evac. goes something like these;
when we saw(i mean my crew together with the passengers) the fire on our right wing, everyone panicked and started gettig out of their seats. Fortunately there's this one guy who shouted that its normal for this type of plane to have a burning engine, everyone got back to their seating.
but for us crew we knew that the guy is wrong and i tell you we're also shock but thanks to our months of training and countless drills the state of shock was just 1 to 2 seconds.
we started evacuation as soon as the aircraft comes to a full stop and 31 passengers went out from the exit where i'm standing. and to think that we only have 36 pax at the time all 31 got out from my exit without a single scratch.
most passengers were even gathering their things before jumping in the slides ad we have to shout "now the dager is real please leave your things ad jump".
don't know whats wrong with these passengers they panicked in the wrong time, and when it's time to hurry up, they take their time.
but it's all worth it because the families of the pax where the first to congratulate us and their even thankful that their love ones are not hurt. that's all

You do sound like a real "hero". Maybe the aircraft suffered a TOSSER failure??

Well being pedantic for a bit, quite easily I would say. Surely a "fatal crash" means there were one or more fatalities, not necessarily everyone on board..... I think.

ok then, maybe its not fatal but i'm telling you all the windows in the starboard side are melted and burned and i have to go back inside that night to collect our things and i can still smell the burned fabrics because they had a hard time removing the aircraft from the center of the runway,and all flights are cancelled untill next morning.
if you can only visualize what happened its really chilling.
and its true when they say that if your work is related to flying,one your leg is already in the grave.so you always have to be ready to die. thats my motivation for all crews.

Dont know what it currently is - but airline code GP has been used for:
'Express Airlines flights'
and
'China General Aviation' Flights

A search of GP571 and Crash didnt show up anything.

Don't know of many Western prop aircraft with slides. May very well have been in China...

Why are you telling this story? Whatīs the point? A hero?
I had an accident long time ago and I donīt call myself a hero for trying to save the captain from the burning airplane.. or tell the story in an open forum for unknown reasons.. are you ok? How old are you man?

I have to say i dont agree with HERO about having one foot in the grave doing our job, though i do sympathise with your situation. All though there may not have been any fatalities i can only imagine what a scary scenario it was and you probably believed you were going to die. i think people in this forum have a bit sensitivity.
However i do feel very safe in my job. I travel 150 miles to work and have sat in many traffic jams on the motorway due to fatal or extremely serious accidents, i have never been delayed on a flight due to a crashed aircraft on the runway. I have fears of being in a serious car crash, be it on my journey to work or to a freinds house. I know this a more likely way for me to meet my maker. However i dont let it stop me, i just drive a bit more carefully (unless im late for my report then i get a bit heavy footed!) but the most important thing is to always pull in after landing from flight if feeling to drowsy. I know i have gone of on a tangent here but i speak to so many crew who say they never pull in for a quick nap at service stations even if they are dropping of at the wheel!! This is where i feel we are all putting ourselves at risk.

Oopsie i meant to say people in this forum SHOULD have a bit of sensitivity. Lets keep it freindly in here.

OK THE REAL FLIGHT # WAS GAP 741 BOUND TO NAGA BICOL PHILIPPINES.

Looking at the aircraft accident data base for Air Philippines (http://aviation-safety.net/database/operator/airline.php?var=6631) The airline has had two accidents one involving a 737 (http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=20000419-0) in which every one died.

So you were not on that one unless you are the registered on the other side and posting from the after life :}

The other incident a NAMC YS-11 (http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19960624-0) with no fatalities and involving fire which is similar to the event you have described. But the incident occured on the ground The aircraft struck a ground power unit while taxiing. The aircraft caught fire.This report contradicts the narrative in your first post :{

YES MR.ENGINEER THAT IS THE EXACT AIRPLANE BUT THEY MUST'VE HIDE THE TRUTH AND YOU KNOW HOW SOMETIMES AIRLINE COMPANIES DOES THINGS TO REDEEM THEIRSELF IN PUBLIC HUMILIATION.
I'M SORRY TO SAY AND I DONT KNOW IF I'M DISREGARDING ANY UNWRITTEN ETHICS HERE, BUT THAT'S WHAT REALLY HAPPENED.
DIFFERENT SEATTING POSITION FOR THE COCKPIT CREW.
AND IT'S NOT WHILE TAXIING, IT'S ON FINAL APPROACH THE ONE WHOSE IN CONTROL MUST'VE MISCALCULATED THE THRESHOLD THAT WE HIT IT WITH THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR AND WE SKIDDED OUR WAY TILL WE STOP HALFWAY IN THE RUNWAY.ANYWAY I'M NOT EXPECTING EVERYONE TO BELIEVE ME BUT YOU CAN ASK ANYONE FROM AIRPHILIPPINES WHAT HAPPENED. Presumably your ears were damaged in the incident, explaining why YOU FEEL THE NEED TO SHOUT ON EVERY POST ON THIS AND OTHER THREADS? ;)

It is good to know that you have made it through what must have been a very harrowing incident, and thank you for sharing your experiences. I think that this thread has now covered all of the most important points, so we'll close it down since it can only deteriorate from here on in.
