Anybody out there with impressions about the ECMS short-haul system?
A twin-cable load suspension device, attached to the helicopter’s skids via dual-redundant electro-explosive bolts and run through pulleys at the business end. The system is cleared for the Eurocopter BO 105, BK 117, EC 135, EC 145 and MD Helicopter MD 902.

On the first view an interesting idea, damping the lateral oscillations but the longitudinal oscillations are undamped. The next problem i see is the high chance to damage the unguided steel lines with the skids on the ground (settle down). Compared to the normal short-haul procedures using hooks the system i'm afraid is to complex, to unflexible, to expensive and to heavy...

At HAI convention 2004 they were proud about more than 100 rescues. But at the moment i have only informations about one user (in Austria). The system is distributed in the US by Cavair, Fort Lauderdale
