Hi folks,

Quick question for those in the know. An ex Viper driver recently pointed out to me that a Tonka will turn into a brick if it looses an engine with full internal fuel. This doesn't sound right to me.

Could the leaned perhaps offer some elightenment one way or the other?

Well, she certainly isn't going to continue on at +500kts or remain up at FL250, but neither will she fall out of the sky.

Dependent upon MAT the ac will be capable of continuing at a lower altitude at +300kts, using dry power only on the good engine. If the wrong side of the MAT line then the use of reheat on the good engine, fuel dump, stores jettison or closing the engine bleed-airs & adjusting the temp limiters will all help in restoring the ac to a safe flight regime.

The bottom line is that the Tornado will continue to fly for much longer/further following an engine loss than any F16 would :p

Yes that really would be a bad day at the office!
Take off is the worst time. Can lead to serious consequences!!
Whilst airborne it's still a bit of a mayday. You certainly wouldn't be lugging your bombs to the target!
