BBC reports that it is actually an ATR 72. It crashed 13 Kilometers off the coast of Siciliy. At least 13 dead including two children of the 39 reported on board. Most passengers were young Italians. The crew is Tunisian and the aircraft is from Tuninter.

Italian divers have attached floatation devices to a large section of the fusalage to keep it affloat. The pilot reported engine troubles and requeested an emergency diversion to Palermo. Engines lost power and they were forced to ditch.

A Tuninter ATR was en route from Bari, Italy to Djerba, Tunisia when the aircraft reportedly developed engine problems. At 15:24 the crew contacted Palermo for an emergency landing. They did not make it to Palermo and ditched in the sea around 15:40. Some 22 persons are said to have been rescued by coast guard vessels. Ten people are confirmed to have died and seven are still missing.
