Indian DGCA (the local regulator) has come up with a circular regulating cabin desent rates for "Passenger comfort".

Link given below

http://www.dgca.nic.in/circular/ops02_05.pdf

Is this standard procedure elsewhere - does the local regulators (CAA/FAA et all) have such requirements or is it left to the airline?

The DGCA should be have more work their hands, rather than dream up work to keep their govt jobs.

What a joke Indian aviation has become, saw on the Indian forum some poor kid needs help if he can fly 200 hrs or 250 hrs to get a CPL hahahahahahaaa.

Settle down "Hairy Chest"...... what the hek are you on about anyways ?!?!

Some poor kid needs help from the pro's because he's ignorant about the industry and would like to know about it, so he can be a good little aviator one day just like us.

That's what the forums are there for anyways, to share knowledge and help each other...not to drum up a hairy chest :yuk:

Indian Aviation is not a "Joke" It's lifting up bigtime and booming.

Smoothie.....

Yep, standards continue to rise in India see:

I think what Hairy Chest is quite correctly alluding to is the general state of disrepair of Indian aviation infrastructure and the sometimes haphazard application of existing rules.

You will see that on Indian aircraft, even the current safety standards are not consistently applied (e.g. window shades not up during take off and landing, seat back up upright rule not always enforced when it should.......)

There is clearly enough to enforce and improve on already........

hi hairy chest

Its not that INDIAN aviation that sucks its the regulator DGCA that sucks. They are bunch of corrupt govt A******S who make life tough for pilots returning to India who hold ICao recognised licenses of other respected aviation countries like US.Aus,UK etc.what they dont understand is that these pilots have been better trained with better facilities than in INDIA.And i was the kid u might be referring to who posted the 250 hr or 200 hr cpl.DGCA guys revised the cpl requirements but not the cpl with ir requirements. So if u take into account the present requirement scenario u will have to train upto around 230 hrs which is not much of a difference considering the old 250 hr requirement. And since i dont live in India so i cant personally check with DGCA so i posted it on this forum in the hope that other pilots might know something. It turned out nobody knows anything for sure.this itself is a proof of high unprofessionalism existent in THe DGCA.

My best bet is to revamp DGCA just like TRAI WAS revamped when there was a telecom boom in INDIA and by GOD they are doing a good job.

I agree with you. DGCA has now to be proactive than reactive. Things have been improving but mostly it is in fits and jerks and after major provocation. Typical example is the spate of circulars now coming out on Helicopter operations - after a particularly disastrous serious of incidents a couple of years back and when the investigation reports exposed a slew of deficiencies.

Interesting circular indeed! Passenger comfort is indeed important, but it seems to me that to follow the circular one would have to carry out a descent without allowing the thrust to kick in when below the planned path, because whenever it does so, it bumps the cabin descent rate. Move over VNAV path descent!
The problem is better tackled technically by addressing the pressurisation system of the aircraft rather than pulling up pilots that is sugested by the the circular.

Airbubba ..
mate .. whats up with u .. totally irrelevant post !
just for ur info (u may be ignorant) the Indian Airforce Pilots (in Su30 MKIs) smacked all ur yankee AF "pilots" (F-16/18, whatever)in the Dog fights last year. so cheer up and dont talk abt standards here ... indian pilots are amongst the most professional at their job, and good too.
ur low thinking only seems to show the kind of mental state u r in, and i pity ur passengers (that is if u fly a decent craft in the first place) .. so save ur posts for some other ppl ... we dont take no B*&^*(%T here !

BUT - did they observe DGCA cabin descent rate limits?

or is that (ahem) a "totally irrelevant post" ?

I did not plan to stir the pot, truely pitty kids like divinesoul ! The Indian govt should be helping these young guys not making things harder.

Wow what a wonderfull attitude DGCA has towards their own boys / girls, Give em hell coz the poor student went to USA or where ever to become a pilot ? :yuk: :{

If the DGCA is anti intl pilots; incase an xpat pilot with an indian airline even sneezes at the wrong time he is in deeeeeep s*!t is that what you guys are saying?

freaktrimmer, sorry dont fly Su30s or F16s so your job is safe! I really doubt if the Indian air force will out source for pilots !

Freaktrimmer, Maybe you should do a little research on Cope India, the USAF flew dissimilar air combat against the IAF. The ratio was 4 F-15's to 10-12 IAF fighter aircraft . This was not "Top Gun", the Eagles were to defend ground targets and were defeated about 90% of the time. I wonder how the IAF would fare given those odds? besides what better way of showing the U.S. government the need for the F-22 ? I'll not take anything away from the skills of Indian pilots, but may I suggest you have a little credibility before you shoot from the hip. Before you flame me of being anti Indian...I am Indian.

Has there been any update about the Indian captain who was dragged from the flight deck and assaulted by some local politicians who accused him of trying to suffocate them - problem with the aircon system was the last thing I heard about it.........anyone?

hi people

Hey hairychest:

DGCA makes life tough for indian pilots trained abroad i know there are a quite number of Indian pilots working abroad but they dont want to come to India because of conversion headaches.i am sure if dgca becomes transparent these guys would love to come back to their country and fly.Well about me flying in India well thats the only option i got.Working in the country i train in all depends on the govt giving me a work visa which is not certain at all.So i have no choice but to come back to India and confront the DGCA.Hey i know its going to be a night mare hey but other pilots have done it before and come out of it unscathed so will i.

Hope DGCA gets revamped by the time i finish training.

And about expat pilots well the airlines are going to protective because considering the current shortage scenario they are not going to let them off that easily.Anyway all these expat pilots are capt no expat fos here and they are on a 1 year contract which may or may not be renewed considering the demand/supply situation at that time.

I doubt the xpat pilots need to worry about DGCA:yuk: . The airlines will bribe them enough.

As for aviation a joke in India, well yes it has become one !

IA just sued their TRE's to force them to stay and won the case: Can you imagine the motivation of these guys to teach a newbie with 200hrs of C152 time in a 320 sim. What the f*&% will that kid learn and what will he fly:mad:

Its just a sad situation getting worse every day !

jboyelias u better pray hard the DGCA changes
:ok:

Airbubba:

I too could post a hilarious and degrading article about the leader of the free world wanting to teach "intellingent design" to the schoolkids of america, but i decided to refrain as im sure it has nothing to do with the standards of the american aviation industry. Its all to easy to make cheap shots...
