Hi,

Has anybody out there airport details for Mwanza / Tanzania?

All I know is, that it seems to be a hot and high airport.

Does the runway allow to operate aircraft larger than 707/DC-8/A300B4? Would a DC-10 or B742 be possible?

Many thanks!

They used to operate L-1011 Tri Stars out of there carrying fish to Europe before the Russians took over the market with all their IL-76's.

Most freighters wait till night to leave and always over the lake. But that didn't help the boys on the last IL-76.

If you have the opportunity go and watch Darwin´s Nightmare (http://www.coop99.at/darwins-nightmare/). A film on Mwanza, IL-76´s, weapons, fish - and Africa.

Thanks all!

Are there any pics from the airport available?

I understood, that an A300 or a DC-10 would be no problem there.

Thanks again!

Interesting it happens to be Chapman Freeborn - they're also in Iraq doing contracts for KBR with Aerocom equipment, I hear.
