Part 61 or Part 141?

Which school is the better route if my goal is to become a Airline pilot for a major airline one day?

By the way, I dont know if this matters but I live in the U.S.A

Part 141 would be better....escpecially if you are going to continue.

I did my PPL on Part 61.

It is now costing me a fortune to do my CPL as you need 250 hours total time instead of 125 hours had i done part 141.

there are much more knowledgable bods here than me who may also be able to find me a loophole in this mess!!

part 61 is something to avoid all together if your intention is to become an instructor
in the FAA in order to obtain hours and later get hired by an airline.


My suggestion, part 61 if you know somebody who can get you in the airlines for sure if not, stick with 141 from PPL all the way up.

Doing a ppl 61 and then an instrument 141 would be inconvienent.


In all though this might just end up costing you a lot more money (141).

Get some good advice from REAL people and not just forums.

Farrell, the 141 CPL is not 125 hrs it's 190.
Sixty hrs difference yes, however the 141 syllabus requires a whole lot more of ground school.
The reduction in flying time has to come form somewhere.
For 141 PPL 35 hrs of groundschool is required. For part 61 as necessary.
If you have a bright student who studies a lot maybe 10 hrs is sufficient.
Can't do it under 141 35 hrs IS REQUIRED
And your chances of a job don't increase either, you now hold 190 hrs vs 250.
Avoid 61 if you intend to be an instructor?
