The EU Jet collapse will obviously dent consumer confidence, but should "caveat emptor" also be applied to some of the major carriers?

Pax booking through a bonded agent may be ok, but the trend is increasingly towards direct booking.

Should warnings be going out to potential Delta or Alitalia customers, or do both of these have political allies far more powerful than a junior New Labour transport minister?

I would not worry about Delta going out of business soon as it would probably have to Declare Chapter 11 Bankruptcy first ( like United has done and US Airways has done). This gives the company time to reorganise whilst protecting it from creditors.

The US airlines do seem remarkably well protected. Corporate welfare is alive and well in the land of the free market, and why would they ever want to sign up to Kyoto when they have so many kerosine guzzling old wrecks carting around plane loads of air?

Who cares about the odd few thousand Euros given to Ryanair to set up routes when Alitalia get bailed out to the tune of hundres of millions for the nth time.

These behemoths are probably all above the worry of the individual passenger getting shafted, but we are all paying in the long run.
